Video of Ken "Boo" Malcome

Malcome looks like he can break some tackles. That should come in handy given the run-blocking this year.

I just hope that Murray stays in good health the next 2 games given Washaun's hit-or-miss approach to pass-blocking and Malcome's as yet untested pass-blocking. Carlton Thomas might not be able to run between the tackles, but he's easily the second best pass blocking tailback after King.

Apparently Richt did not confirm whether or not Malcome's redshirt will get burned, though given the circumstances I'm sure it's quite possible we'll see him.

Richt says that Munzenmaier will "absolutely" be getting reps at tailback, with Dustin Royston and Zander Ogletree getting an increased workload at FB.

Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing him. I remember very clearly that he was highly recruited by many big schools including Oklahoma, and the Sooners typically do not offer RBs out of GA unless they are really good.

He is a bruiser with good balance and some elusiveness- different style for sure and a good addition to the backfield.

yeah he hasn't confirmed it, but i think ken plays man. he would have played earlier if not for the concussion he received. as cmr said they have been working with ken for over a month to get him ready to play. i never have a problem even halfway through the year to burn a redshirt on an rb especially with ealey's fumbling issues and no way is carlton a starting rb.

that is my big concern. the blocking aspect of our rbs.. i fear for aaron's health with no caleb back there. i do love malcome's running style. he is very physical, runs through arm tackles, and has good vision.

just saw caleb got 2 games...unbelivable...it should be an interesting next 2 games to say the least...

Vandy is next to last in the SEC at stopping the run, and Vandy was where we finally got the ground game rolling last year. I am worried about UK, though. They're in the midst of a 3 game losing streak that could be extended to 4 this week against SC, so they'll be playing a night game at home and likely desperate for a win. Not to mention they've taken 2 of the last 4 in the series, and it could easily be 3 of 4 if not for Dobbs and Stafford's late heroics in '08.

It'll really be tough. UK and Vandy are much better than they usually are, and we are much worse. For some reason, we not not match up well against UK. Vandy looks the best it has in a long time, and we have problems with mobile QBs- that game will be much closer than what people think. Thankfully, Belin will have tips for Bobo.

we used to have a mental advantage with kentucky.. like what uf has with kentucky right now.. they would would literally quit in the 1st half and would get weak knee'd when we showed up to play them. we dominated them. however they got confidence against us when we had that horrible display of football in 2006 and since then they now believe they can win against us and give us a tough game yearly. when you get that mental advantage like we had for a very long time you need to keep up the beatings and not give them any hope. right now they have improved, but more importantly they believe they can beat us year in and year out now. they do not have that feeling with uf because the gators haven't let up on them.

vanderbilt won't be a push over. we will have to take it to them and break their will early.

The new plan at running back? Take a guess

Georgia running backs coach Bryan McClendon was a receiver in his playing days, but he joked after Tuesday’s practice that he was thinking of suiting up with his unit.

“This is a blast. We’re having open tryouts,” McClendon said.

He most still joking. Probably.

Given the suspension of Caleb King, and the hamstring injury to Carlton Thomas, the Bulldogs enter the weekend with Washaun Ealey the clear-cut starter, but after that, who knows.

The situation remains in flux. Thomas has not been ruled out, and a decision has yet to be made on whether to take the redshirt off of freshman Ken Malcome. Fred Munzenmaier, normally a fullback, has been given work at tailback.

So the great question around Georgia football this week is what the plan is for tailback.

The coaches aren’t sure yet either.

“You’ve got Washaun and Munzenmaier, and then you’d have to make a decision on Ken Malcome,” Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said. “We’ll have to wait and see right now.”

Asked if Malcome had done enough to play, Bobo smiled.

“Well we ain’t got no one else,” Bobo said.

Munzenmaier would welcome some time at tailback.

“Yeah. Second-string guy, I’d look forward to any chance to get on the field,” Munzenmaier said. “I won’t complain what position.”

Munzenmaier played tailback the fourth quarter of the Louisiana-Lafayette game, as well as a bit of the Independence Bowl.

“I’m ready to do whatever they need me to do,” he said. “I’ve been exposed to the system over a long period of time. So I know what to do at both positions.”

The production of Georgia’s tailbacks has been a sore point anyway this season.

Ealey and King talked about each running for 1,000 yards. They may not combine for that many: Through six games Ealey has 246 and King has 228, and King is out the next two games.

The longest run by a Bulldog this season was by a receiver (A.J. Green’s 40-yard end-around at Colorado.) The second longest is by a quarterback (Aaron Murray’s 35-yard touchdown run against Tennessee).

But McClendon sounded pretty frustrated that King encountered his trouble this week.

“Before all this I think Caleb was doing a good job at that actually,” McClendon said. “Just as far as these past few games, he did a good job of separating himself as The Guy. Of course this hurts him a little bit.”

But what this does is give Ealey – the projected starter this summer – another chance to show his wares.

“He has to go out there and he has to do a good job,” McClendon said. “Not so much fill the void, he has to go out there and fill the job no matter what.”

They need to take drastic measures in training ball security for Ealey. Tiki Barber was a carry away from a fumble in every game until they cracked down on working that problem big time. We need to do that with Ealey. He has a lot of potential, but his fumbling issue has not been any help at all.

They should do Ealey like Omar Epps in "The Program" and make him carry the football all over campus as he goes about his daily routine. If anybody can take the ball from him and return it to the coaches, Ealey would catch he11. Let Grantham or Garner dispense the he11 cuz Richt is no James Caan (which is a good thing and a bad thing).

Last year Ealey was out of shape compared to where he is now and battling injuries yet averaged close to 100yds/game. The current o-line issues aside, I don't get Ealey's regression this year. Must be mental. Kinda like Rambo. Maybe that acrobatic sideline interception and hedge leaping can jumpstart Rambo to a better second half of the season.

In any event, looking forward to Boo this Saturday. He doesn't look like the type who goes down on first contact.

The thing about Ealey... His fumbles dont look like they're coming on plays where he's holding the ball wrong. The one where his helmet came off, I think he just blacked out for a split second. I mean, he was CRUSHED on that fumble at the goalline. And the fumble out of bounds last game, he looked like he was holding the ball perfectly, just popped out.

I would rather see Malcome's redshirt burned than see us playing a FB. Our FB's are good, don't get me wrong, but their big play potential is limited. I would like to see Ealey, Malcome, and Thomas carry the load over the next two games.

I don't think Ealey bares the brunt of the blame for the goal line fumble against UK last year. I also can't really blame him too much for the Colorado fumble given that he got KTFO and it seemed the ref blew the whistle. However, excuses in sports have a way of not mattering once a pattern is established. Hopefully, King being out will provide Ealey the opportunity to return to last season's form.

I asked about him last week. I think Sac said Malcome was dinged-up. But he was dressed for the UT game, so maybe he's back to 100%. I really want to see what he can do at the next level, because he was clearly a man amongst boys in highschool.

yeah boo got a concussion a few days after the south carolina game. they have been working with him so he can learn the plays while he was recovering from that concussion. he is 100% now and i am looking forward to having him take some snaps. also for those who think we are okay with munz as a rb i disagree. i like munz a lot, but we need an rb back there not a fullback.
