Ssal0808
At 29, the last hold over from my childhood is gone. Thanks for all you have done for the Braves, Atlanta, and baseball. You will be sorely missed.I have been preparing myself for this moment for a year or so now. Even with a memorable season and a post season berth, it isn't easy. Thanks Bobby
mookie3127
let's keep this thread positive fellas. if you want to ***** about him, start your own thread to bash him. he's done a **** of a lot more for this ball club than any of us arm chair gm's and managers have. The Don™
Thank you Bobby.I'm not sure if it's hit me just yet, but I think it will very soon now...It may hit me the most on Opening Day 2011 when Bobby isn't on that top step of the dugout drinking some water out of that cup and shouting out nicknames to his players while they are batting... USAF HART
I don't really think it's going to hit me until next season when I look into the dugout and don't see Bobby standing by the railing waiting for his chance to come out and argue the next bad call. Thank you Bobby for everything that you have done for the Atlanta Braves, The City of Atlanta, and most of all the Fans of the Braves. Thank you for what you have done, and what you might continue to do in your support of us. May you enjoy your retirement, and live the rest of your life to it's fullest. Joremarid
thank god hes goneI just don't get this mindset. How many other managers have been more successful over the last 20 years then bobby cox? i'm guessing 2, maybe 3 max?
dmite
Not sure if any of you watched the press conference after the game on TBS, but man, it was tough seeing him get choked up when he started talking about how proud he was of his team. Fridge_LargeMeat
bobby you earned the high life and he only lives 20 mins from me.I actually got to throw few balls with Bobby when i was a kid when his mom or mother in law (i cant remember) lived in/near Sherwood Forrest in Rome, GA. My grandmother knew her. I actually got a little teary eyed when Bobby got a little upset during his press conference they showed on TBS. I'll miss you Bobby. blizzard_falcon
Bobby Cox has been the Braves' manager for most of my life, and definitely my entire lifetime of following the Braves since I was old enough to know what was happening in a baseball game... Thank you, Bobby! I hope that whoever the Braves choose to replace you can be half the manager that you were.

R.C. Collins
Thanks Bobby. I wish you nothing but the best in the future. What is the most important is that you had success, you did what you loved for 51 years of your life and you earned the respect and love of all of your players and anyone associated with the game of baseball and the only people who try to bring you down from that success are not worth even thinking about.I would rather have the love and respect of every professional in the game as Bobby does than have the approval of one fat lonely douchbag who sits at a computer keyboard and complains about people performing at a level they could not even handle being a ball boy in.I wish one of the people who are at this moment complaining about Bobby would try to play or manage baseball for one day at this level and do something other than fail. You know why Bobby garners respect and love even though he hasn't won 5 world series, its because he is not like you. When something goes wrong he defends his players and takes the blame while all you know how to do is point your little fingers. You guys who take this opportunity to be negative truly are not men and should really re-evaluate your priorities and bithcing at a moment like this does not make you a true fan, it makes you a little *****. Philly needs some more classless fans why don't you jump on that bandwagon. Its amazing how many people here who I had a small amount of respect for on here are no different from sean weatherspoon in my eyes now.Anyway, Goodbye Bobby and we will be lucky if our next manager can have half the amount of success as a manager as you have had.Since the 1991 season, counting this year that is a total of 20 seasons and only two of those season did a Bobby Cox team end the season with a losing record. The next manager won't do that. Period.
Falconsfan567
I was too upset last night to do what I needed to do in this thread. But now that the pain of defeat has woren off a bit I can now fully give my thanks to a man who looks a lot like my Grandpa! He really does!Bobby knew exactly what he was doing when he took over as GM of the Braves in 1985. He knew that to build a consistent winner he needed to build up the farm system to produce an endless flow of young talent. He drafted the likes of Mark Lemke, Ron Gant, David Justice and Tommy Glavine. Made the great trade for John Smoltz. Made the very painful decision to trade Dale Murphy to open up a spot for David Justice in the lineup in 1990. He knew that while at the time it was one of the most unpopular moves made in the history of sports that for the Braves to get to where they needed to go that it had to be done.He adjusted quite well over the years to different types of players. When the Braves run first started the Braves didn't have much power and relied on the speed and small ball game and solid pitching and defense to win a lot of 4-3 and 3-2 ballgames. Then he adjusted to a team in the late 90s that was loaded from top to bottom with big power bats. But he knew that the Braves success always started with solid pitching. Bobby thanks for everything you did over the years! Thanks for the great memories. It's going to be weird come next spring when you aren't out there shouting "come on kid!" to every batter. And ultimately thanks Bobby for 1995!
