ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia freshman quarterback Aaron Murray has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week, according to a league announcement on Monday.

Murray, a 6-1 native of Tampa, Fla., led the Bulldogs to a 41-14 rout of Tennessee in Sanford Stadium over the weekend. Murray went 17-of-25 for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns with no interceptions. He also accounted for a pair of rushing scores, including a career-long 35-yard scamper through the Volunteer defense.

Murray connected with seven different receivers as Georgia accumulated 402 total yards on offense. While posting a career-best passing efficiency of 183.8 against Tennessee, Murray directed Georgia to scores on seven of 11 drives and helped the Bulldogs go 6-for-6 in Red Zone chances.

This is Georgia's first SEC weekly football award of the 2010 season.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-3 SEC) host Vanderbilt (2-3, 1-1) for Homecoming on Oct. 16 at 12:21 p.m. Georgia's game will be televised for the second consecutive week on the SEC Network.

I've been very impressed with him for a freshman. In hindsight, I'm so glad we didnt play him last year. Now we've got him for 3 more years instead of 2.

I have a feeling, as he keeps developing, these awards will become more and more frequent...

Thats how I see the starting QB's lining up in the SEC.. Murray could be the best QB in the league by as early as next year with his rapid maturation.

The future is definitely bright with Murray. I'm gonna love watching him develop as a QB and as a leader and see this team react to his presence. We definitely got a good one.

Best part is.... we took him from right under the Gators nose. B)

you knew UGA getting gator lock murray really was a hit to their fans when their uf writers had to write ego soothing articles about how they didn't aaron murray at all and he was a luxury and they wouldn't add any qbs that class which was false and it turned out to be a feel good article to try and help gator fans deal with a player they expected was going to be a gator for a long time.

If Murray would have had AJ and a less stubborn Bobo all season, he might even be a spot or two higher.

billy, that to me is what is so impressive with aaron.. our oline has way under performed and our running game hasn't lived up close to our expectations and yet he has done all of this despite all those issues.. not having aj for 4 games was very tough on him, but he still performed admirably.. imagine his numbers if he had aj green and a better running game?

rather have trey burton start right now.

I would still rather have Murray. :P

Srsly though, why isn't trey starting? He is obviously much better suited for the offense, which, contrary to what Urban said, is not pocket passer friendly at all. Brantley shouldn't even be at UF, he is a really bad fit. It is scary to think what Urban could have done with Murray.

If I were a UF fan, I think I wouldn't even mind seeing Jordan Reed moved back to QB and get a few more snaps, he has great size and can still run very well.

well nutt never hired gus in the first place. you can understand their issues.

Gus, combined with the talent of McFadden/Jones, was the magic of our 2006 run. Nutt freaked out when Mustain threw an interception in the SC game, started Casey D. and it wasn't the same after that. I wonder who started calling the offense after that hmmm. I'm glad that clown was run out of town, F Houston Nutt.
