Falconsfan567
I want to make this the offical Atlanta Thrashers 2010-2011 season thread since we don't have a Thrashers forum. So first things first. I hope Ondrej Pavelec is ok. That was really scary to see especailly so early in the game. Hope him staying in the hospital overnight was just a precautionary thing. But how bout them new look Thrashers? Taking it to the Caps? Except for about the first 10 minutes of the 2nd period this game was totally dominated by the Thrashers! They looked like the Detroit Red Wings out there with their great puck possession and great pressure in the offensive zone for the majority of the game.EVANDER KANE IS THE SHYT! AWESOME! LOVE THAT DUDE! That first goal he had to tie the game was about as sweet as they come. The Caps were trying to clear the puck and Kane intercepted it at the blue line of the offensive zone, dodged by a defended and hammered it home! The shot that puck so hard it came back out of the net just as fast as it went in. And then on the penalty shot he hammered it home!Last year times our passive style really pissed me off because we put way too much pressure on our goalies by spending so much time in the defensive zone. BTW I wanna shot out to Chris Mason! Dude did an awesome job of coming in for Pavelec! And I loved the emotion showed by Craig Ramsey and the bench after the win! High fives and fist bumps! What an awesome way to start the season by ending a 8-game losing streak to the Caps!
ATLBrave
Go Thrash. Sad I missed the opening game, but hopefully Pavelec is OK.
Cable Guy
Great start to the season. With as young as the Thrashers are they are projected to make the playoffs this year.
Falconsfan567
Great start to the season. With as young as the Thrashers are they are projected to make the playoffs this year.I'm fully expecting it! They were so close last year. They have 13 new players on the team, a few of which I have never heard of, this year. That's a lot of change but if game 1 is any indication it was for the better! Falconsfan567
Go Thrash. Sad I missed the opening game, but hopefully Pavelec is OK.Game 2 is tonight at 7:30 EST on FS South! Thrashers at Lightning. It's the Lightning's season opener under new GM Steve Yzerman! Dude was awesome as a player for the Red Wings all those years! The Don™
I really like our speed this year. The young guys are flying around, and Ramsey stresses speed and flying up and down the ice. He also stresses that all guys on the ice should have a scoring mentality...I like that philosophy!I like what Ramsey is doing with these guys this year. Less conservative and more in to attack mode.I especially like the two youngest players on the team, Kane and Burmistrov.
Threepac Daddy
Pavelec is doing ok, kinda think nerves got to him and he had a panic attack of some kind. really scary to watch. thrashers looked good, but its only the 1st game
USAF HART
Question for those who watched last nights game. I know we acquired Buff from the Chicago Blackhawks, and have come under a lot of fire for moving buff from Forward to defense. How does he look on defense? Could we possibly move him back to forward?
Warrior999
I find myself always hopeful and excited about the Thrashers at the start of every season. Usually within a month I am left shaking my head saying "Here we go again." I seriously hope this year team can be in the playoffs. Once you get into the playoffs in the NHL. Anything can happen and anyone can win. NHL Playoffs might be the most unpredictable of any in the 4 major sports.Another place to talk about the Thrashers is here. Some very knowledgeable and true Thrashers fans here. http://hfboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Warrior999
Not exactly the game I was hoping for by the Thrashers. They put themselves in a big hole early going down 4-0. Manage to battle back to make it 4-3. After the Lightening got the 5th goal just felt the air let out the team. Just one of those game. Really disappointing but not too suprising considering it was the Lightning season opener and first game under Stevie Y. Hopefully this long west coast road swing doesn't tire them out too much. Thrashers only play 4 of their first 12 games at home.

I did a good job a few time bringing the puck out of the zone and making a few good outlet passes . I they talked ( the announcers ) talked about him a lot and about his cannon shot that he has and that maybe they'll use him at the point on the power play on occasion or have him in the slot on the power play too would be awesome . Only time will tell , but he did say ( Buff ) that he wanted to play defense again ,so let's just have patience and see how he does . I wasn't sure how all that transpired. I heard that he asked for it, I heard that the Thrashers FO did it without asking him, etc. Glad to hear that we did it because he wanted to. +
Warrior999
It look like Burmistrov will be remaining on the team the entire season. http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-thrashers-blog/2010/10/12/looks-like-burmistrov-will-stick-around/

Didn't know he was our 1st round pick. Hopefully he turns out to be as good as Bogosian and Kane have the last 2 years! We seem to finally be making good with our 1st round picks!Oh and I did hear that he wears #8 because his idol growing up was former Red Wings player Igor Larionov. Also being a Wings fan I can tell you that Larionov was a solid player and if Burmistrov turns out to be that good we'll be solid.Oh and an update on tonight's game. It's tied at 0 at the 1st intermission.EDIT: Chris Thorburn just scored to make it 1-0 Thrashers in the 2nd period! Yes! Falconsfan567
The Thrashers lost 3-1. It's quite disappointing because they dominated the first 2 periods and had a 1-0 lead at the 2nd intermission. Then in the 3rd period they just didn't show up. They are now 1-2-0. They did control the second period and I fell asleep before the 3rd period started. Atlanta is know 1-14 on the power play.I have season tickets in section 110 and I know I can't make every game this year. If anyone wants to go to a game send me a PM. So far our power play has been more like a penalty kill! That definately has to get better!
Warrior999
Finally the Thrashers win another game. They win 5-4 in overtime. They get a surprise hat trick from Anthony Stewart. Who has played 5 years in the NHL and scored a total of 4 goals entering tonight game. http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=301015025
USAF HART
That game last night was awesome. We were down 4-2 in the third period and came back and tied the game up with about 2:51 left in the game. It was a controversial goal that was reviewed becaause one of our guys went to knock in the puck out of mid-air, and his stick went above the cross-bar which would have been a high sticking penalty. However, Stewart was right there and he was able to get his stick on it and swat it down into the net for the goal. Stewart SHOULD have scored 4 goals yesterday..with like 30 seconds left in OT, the Ducks took a shot from the right face off circle and missed wide left. The puck carromed off the wall almost perfectly, and Stewart had a huge breakaway but the puck was never flat from the movement of the previous shot, and once Stewart got in front of the net, he couldn't get a clean shot on goal. We won on the 4th OT shooter . A very satisfying win against a very good Ducks team.
Warrior999
I only saw the highlights on NHL Network. Unless FSS or FSN show the game I am out of luck. It is early this team is showing a knack for fighting back in games when they get down. They won this game without several of their good players in Bogo and Bergfors.
