Billy Ocean
http://georgia.247sports.com/Board/Topic/19/115465*** Looks like a few shake-ups are in store for UGAs offensive line this week, going by who was working today with the first-string. The big mover appears to be true freshman Kenarious Gates at right guard, knocking right tackle Josh Davis out of the starting five. Gates lined up with: Trinton Sturdivant (LT), Cordy Glenn (LG), Ben Jones © and Clint Boling, who was at right tackle. The second-string line was: A.J. Harmon (LT), Dallas Lee (LG), Chris Davis ©, Tanner Strickland (RG) and Davis at right tackle. ***Josh Davis cured our run-blocking o-line woes when he was inserted into the line-up towards the end of last season, but he's just been impersonating a matador this year.Do any of you guys know how Austin Long is progressing after back surgery? SacFalcFan
Josh Davis is actually banged up so I am happy they are doing this with gates. Gates has impressed from day 1. Austin Long is able to work out, but needs another year to get completely back from his back surgery. We played Garrison smith last week and we are also going to be playing richard samuel and possibly Boo.

Kenarious Gates has been impressive ever since he stepped on campus and will hopefully help shore up the right side of our line.
tjb
At this point, I'm all for them shaking up the OL. Nothing has worked to this point, might as well. Actually, seems like last year when we had a shakeup is when we started to have a running game. Maybe we'll have the same luck this year.. Mr Pickle1
I thought AJ Harmon was a TE. AM I totally wrong about that?Yes. In every way you possibly could be, to the fullest extent allowable in those individual ways. He's a 320lb OT/DT/OG
matt marshall
let's play the freshman. Do we have anything to lose?
GATX
Yea -- more games.A lot of them aren't ready to play. If you think the mistakes and bewilderment have been bad up to this point...let's play the freshman. Do we have anything to lose? In every way you possibly could be, to the fullest extent allowable in those individual ways. He's a 320lb OT/DT/OGWOW, how I managed to screw that up so badly, I don't know. That name sounds so familiar to me and I have it attached to a TE for some reason. Was AJ the kid you guys got a season or two back who was unsure which side of the ball he would be used on? Did he come in wanting to play defense for you guys?NM, I reread your post and see that you have him listed also as a DT. Somehow I got him confused with someone else on the UGA team. ugadawg
Sac that is good to hear about a shake up, but what about Geathers do you see him getting more time. Seemed like when he went in last week we got a much better push in the middle.

They were all "1 gap this" and "2 gap that".Well as a Cowboys fan I'll tell ya once again how Grantham was able to do w/ a 310 NT, Jay Ratliff is as strong as an ox and DeAngelo Tyson isn't. DeAngelo is an above average 3 technique DT, though, and he only belongs at NT on third and long, if then. ugadawg
ask rodney on that one.. he should be in the game more, but he isn't great in practice so rodney is not playing him more.. argh..well there are pros and cons to that. I understand about wanting them to practice hard and shine but some players just show up when the lights come on. I would have to question Rodney hard on that one he should be able to watch the game tape and see exactly what we do.

That was talked about on this board often and with that our dline size was fine. you join august 16th so you missed a lot of back and forth on the dline discussion we had. bean having to miss the season with turf toe threw that plan into the toilet so they have worked guys like abry jones to kwame geathers into the mix. kwame will only get more reps if he practices hard with rodney garner as his coach. we haven't played the 3-4 the entire year after the 1st game. We are playing a 4-2-5 most times due to being in the nickel a lot.

Billy Ocean
We are playing a 4-2-5 most times due to being in the nickel a lot.So in a 4-2-5 one of the OLB converts to DE. So then we have a OLB/DE, DE, NT, DE on the field, right? If that's the case no wonder why the opposition has lined up 3-wide and run it up the middle on us. We had a TE recruit named Dwayne Allen who was committed the whole year, then switched to Clemson at the end. I have the two linked in my mind for reason as well. I have AJ Harmon linked with Dwayne Allen, and it's because of the situation both of them had when deciding between Clemson and UGA. In my mind I just had the wrong one being a Dawg. I'm glad you figured that one out for me; it was irritating me trying to figure out why I made that error. Thanks. could you have been thinking about Artie Lynch? We talked about AL a few times last year and he is a TE for us.Nope, MR Pickel1 figured it out for me. And as wrong as I was, there was at least a decent explanation for why I got mixed up. But thanks for trying to help me out.
