USAF HART
This kid is really young and he is like the best Japanese picture out there. Kawakami won the MVP award for the Japanese league when he was over there, received rookie of the year, and was awarded the equivalent of our cy young award. We all see how he turned out for us. an 8-21 record spanning over two years. Our japanese experimintation should/hopefully is over.
ATLBrave
Japanese pitcher's do not always fail when they come to the MLB. Dice-K, Saito, Hideo Nomo, and quite a few other players have made the successful transition to America. Just because one player failed, doesn't mean they all will. Just because one player failed, doesn't mean they all will.and even then Kenshin actually did not pitch horribly fr the braves. His first year he was actually solid, and he had just terrible luck this past year, he pitched well enough to have near a .500 record. Was not great but its not like he was the worse pitcher in the league

Just because one player failed, doesn't mean they all will.I don't doubt that many other players have made a successful transition to Major League Baseball. However, with the money that it will cost to sign this Darvish kid, and with the failed experiment of our first ever japanese baseball player, I will say no thanks. Let the media giants battle over supremacy for this kid. We don't need him. When Medlen comes back, we would have the youngest 1 thru 4 starters. Hanson, JJ, Medlen, Minor, Beachy?...we are set for at least the next 6 years at pitching. Let's throw our money at someone of more need, like say, an outfielder who can throw, catch, and hit? ATLBrave
Oh, I'm not saying sign the kid. I know he's going to cost a good bit to sign, I was just saying don't judge other people on Kawakami's failures.

I know this may seem like a bad analogy..but if say you get food poisoning from X place. It would take ALOT for me to go back and try X place again..we both have our opinions. ugadawg
my biggest issue with signing a Jap pitcher is the vast difference in systems. They have 6 SP so an extra day off but throw alot more pitches. The change did not bode well for KK and it has effected DiceK as well causing injuries. Most of the other effective ones were RP. Makes it very hard to adjust once an arm has developed into one system. Plus we have alot of young talent. Give me a batter. Also USAF what is this type of OF'er that can hit, throw, and catch where do they make these at I have not seen one in years....is he related to sasquatch or loch ness

Ransack
2 plus breaking balls, a change-up, and a 96mph fastball? Yes please. And for all you comparing him to KK these two guys aren't even on the same planet. KK is past his prime and doesn't throw nearly as hard as this kid does so can the comparisons. Falconsfan567
I think I saw where they want $25M just to talk to the guy. Like the Braves would pay that!
MilleniumFalcon
Kenshin Kawakami won the best pitcher award in Japan nearly 7 years ago, and he doesn't nearly have the stuff that Darvish has. Also to note, KK has a better ERA than Derek Lowe since they both got here. It's more bad luck for KK than anything because he hasn't been that bad and makes much less money than Lowe.Anyways this Yu Darvish kid looks pretty awesome but I would pass, because he's going to get paid a very high amount and Braves would be better served to spend the money elsewhere. So again your point?
USAF HART
Yeah I know you're all about some of that overrated Matt Kemp. You're absolutely right that I want Matt Kemp. a.) He is a better option than a McClouth/Cabrera platoonb.) His asking price will be MUCH lower than Darvish'sThe Atlanta Braves DO NOT NEED Darvish.A.) HE COSTS TOO MUCHB.) We have plenty of young arms in the minors that are waiting for their big league debut. We have too much talent to be pursuing an expensive overseas arm. C.) Japan success does not always translate to MLB success
Falconsfan567
Name a good Japanese pitcher not named Hideo Nomo or Takashi Saito! I can't! And please no don't mention Dice-K! By far the most overrated pitcher in the history of baseball!
