Happy about the win.... worried about the Offense

I think we all can agree that our Offense is inconsistent, but my issue is not really with Matt Ryan, Turner etc.

We are constantly in 3rd and long situations simply because we refuse to get creative on 1st and 2nd down. It is almost ridiculous how we continue to send in 2 and 3 TEs on every 1st down.....basically saying to an NFL defense..."we're gonna run it right at you".

It is getting so bad, that the 49ers gameplan was to send run blitzes all day. I understand we are a run first team, but at some point, you have to consider the terrible situations that you are putting your Offense in.

To even have had the success that we have had at this point is remarkable and shows us the overall talent that we have. I just think that our Offense is and will continue to be limited if we don't start mixing things up a bit more.

I think our offense would look alot better if we would at least throw deep a few times a game. Completing the passes would be a plus, but what we really need to do is loosen the defense up underneath so that we have more space to throw short and medium and have more holes for our running game.

It makes it tough to find holes or running lanes when all the defense has to do is play tight coverage on the outside and bring safeties/linebackers on run blitzes...

Our Offense is a power running offense. That's the reason we have the TE's we have, Ovie and Turner. I agree with some of what you say, but Mularky has always built his offenses around a power running attack.

I have no problem with that, but I do wish we would spread the field a little more. We have to tools to do that a few times a game.

I don't think the play calling was bad. When your quarterback is ice cold for most of the game what other options do you have? I mean really our offense played one heck of a game last week and was on the field more than the defense. They were spent physically and emotionally and it showed. It was no surprise how stout the defense was today. They only allowed one touchdown all day and essentially kept us in the game.

Ryan threw the ball almost forty times. Do you want him to throw more and abandon the run? I understand maybe taking more deep shots against a rookie safety with no range but when your QB is in a funk like ryan was do you try and get him back in a rhythm or sacrifice rhythm to try and appease the fans by turning him into Phillip Rivers? Come on guys we faced a talented niners team who showed that it was their OC holding them back. We just showed we can win when it counts.

i wondered the same thing. it became obvious from the 1st series, the 9'ers were going to stack the box to stop the run. rather than change the game plan, frickin MM keeps hammering the ball up the middle, into a wall (for no gain, or either a loss). i understand sticking to your philosophy, but jesus christ, you have to make adjustments.

also, with a rookie safety in the game, i expected us to attack down the field, especially in the middle. i don't think we did it the ENTIRE game.

WTF???

have we even got an effective PA off? what's wrong with mularkey man? in all seriousness

I have no problem with a power running game and generally think our games are called okay. What I wish, is that with the weapons we have, we should run some aggressive motion and run some split formations where we run two split ends a slot receiver and a fourth WR in motion (single back). We do not attack the defense, we play to see what they give us and try to exploit match ups (like Gonzo being covered by a safety or LB all day). Good defenses will not give you anything, like today. If we had come out with a two WR set and a slot with motion either out of the back field or by a fourth receiver several things will happen. We could have attacked the middle of the field with quick slants and some post patterns. Motion forces the LB's to change coverage packages depending on which side of the line the strength resides and causes overbaances so teams will have to shift to zone if in man. And generally it backs the safeties up. Once that happens things like screen passes open up.

Man, Mularky is a good OC but he really needs to be more aggressive and attack the defense. We will never be able to give up the power running attack, but we need to use our weapons.

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have had games where they didn't play well at all and in the end, did what they had to do to win. I just think the Falcons played a determined and desperate 49er team that were going to go at all lengths to win this game. Great game from the 49ers but the Falcons squeak another win. Good game Falcons.

I'm not worried about the offense as much as I'm worried about the play calling and our coaches insisting on running Turner. Snelling is clearly the quicker RB to the hole. The 49ers were clogging up the middle and we were still trying to run through A and B gaps. We need more stretch plays, misdirections and passes to the TE/RB up the middle behind the LBs. The 49ers really had our number today, but thankfully we still won it.

offense sucks. no playmakers. in case nobody has noticed "the patriot way" hasnt paid off in 6 or 7 years. teams are winning with PLAYMAKERS. finn jenks douglas turner ARE NOT PLAYMAKERS. stop drinking the kool aid.

I bet you're the complete opposite of your name. (Straight broke homey)If I were a 49er, or Saints fan I'd be pissed too. Or, are you one of Swift's new accounts?
