atljbo
An ode to Roddy WhitePosted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 2, 2010 9:46 PM ETBefore we step into the fourth mad Sunday of the year, let's take a moment to pause and state an obvious yet often overlooked fact: Falcons receiver Roddy White is one of the five best receivers in football.Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com had a great piece this week on how White remade his career which we highly recommend checking out. Thought to be a bust after two years, White turned things around with an improved work ethic and the help of such disparate characters as Paul Petrino and Joe Horn. Here's what White has accomplished the last three seasons and change:2007: White put up 83 catches, 1202 yards, and six scores despite catching passes from Joey Harrington and Chris Redman.2008: White recorded 88 catches, 1,382 yards, and seven scores despite playing on the second-most run-heavy offense in the league.2009: 85 catches, 1,153 yards, and 11 touchdowns.2010: 25 catches, 258 yards, and two scores through three games.White is the total package. He's the prototype, along with Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson. White is explosive deep, but physical enough to handle any route underneath. He's great after the catch and no longer struggles with drops like early in his career.Yasinskas points to a story from early in White's career. The team had buyer's remorse on right away. An assistant coach "stood up in a meeting and said White simply wasn't good enough to play in the NFL and there was no argument in response."Five years later, there's no argument that White is among the very best wideouts in the league. stoned_jc7
He is the man. As Matt develops we may see Roddy become one of the two best WR in the league. Maybe only looking up to Johnson in Texas. The one and only good think that came from the Quitrino year was Roddy breaking out in a huge way.Good read. Falconcheff
He hasn't dropped a ball this year.Lies. He's dropped every first pass per game thrown his way (I am counting NOT getting his feet inbounds first throw last week as a DROP).
Optimus*Crimes
Lies. He's dropped every first pass per game thrown his way (I am counting NOT getting his feet inbounds first throw last week as a DROP).That's not a drop. That's an incomplete pass. And statistically, he hasn't had one drop.
HouseofEuphoria
Roddy is at the top of his game - mentally, physically and in his confidence. The best part about it is that He and Ryan are going to get better as the season goes on. His numbers so far indicate a career season this year and i believe it. There are very few QB / WR tandems in the NFL that have that "special connection" and we are lucky to be witnessing the rise of these two great players. And statistically, he hasn't had one drop.I know technically it's an IC, but I'm citing his lack of early game concentration for it, therefore I consider it a drop.Once he gets his head in the game, however, he is pretty money. ChessPlayer1
He hasn't dropped a ball this year. Im sorry but youre wrong. Roddy White USUALLY drops one pass per game-then he goes on to have a good game. Although he didnt drop a ball yesterday, he usually drops at least one.Is he elite? I believe he is elite. Roddy is on a run first team and continues to post good numbers. He's the best player on offense.
mrfahaji
Roddy is my hero. And that play against Clements this week was awesome, it showed that not only does he have the skill and natural attributes as an attacking force, but he also has the grit, determination and teamwork to go with it.I love the fact that he did pretty much the same thing last year to Dre Bly, you'd think the 49ers would learn that once you intercept against the Falcons, you still have to escape Roddy White!I find the whole concept of 'elite' a bit bizarre. It seems so subjective, like a term someone has made up. It's a bit like introducing A+ at school because you've decided that an A doesn't quite define the pupils well enough. Roddy White deserves to be thought of as 'one of the best' receivers in the league, let's leave it at that!
Chitown2ATL_Falcon
He has to many drops to be elite.I bet he has less drops than TO!!
opensource010
He has to many drops to be elite. You know when he runs down the field and causes a CB to fumble the football, that doesn't count as a drop against RW, right? Also, how many other WR in the NFL have done that this year?

vafalconfan
There is also a direct correlation to Roddy's career taking off when vick left the team. Heck all of our wide receivers were suddenly not so bad once we got a real QB who studied defenses and worked with his team..

DavyDmx
Roddy is easily having his best year ever in a Falcons uniform. We should call him the eraser because he cleans up the mistake throws that Ryan sometimes makes.
