Congratulations to the Falcons

Yes, it was a really good game. Falcons deserve credit for pulling it out on the road. Certainly could have gone either way with the FG situations at the end but, I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say the Saints deserved to win it considering the time of possession and all and the fact that we played at home. The Falcons deserved to win all things considered.

As far as the Saints are concerned, I didn't think we played any worse than the first two games to be honest, we just faced a little better team this week. I'd be selling the Falcons short if I said we played poorly because we didn't, but on the other hand, I don't think we've quite hit stride yet, and definitely have some defensive issues that most Saints fans were already aware of. As a matter of fact, most of the talk about the Saints always revolves around the offense but actually, ever since Payton arrived, how well we do is always directly related to how well the defense plays. If the D plays well, we usually win, if it plays poorly, the games seem come down to plays in the 4th qtr. This year looks no different.

Regarding Atlanta, it was my first chance to actually watch the Falcons this year. I thought they were pretty good last year, and I know it's early but, I think they're a little more complete this year and playing at a higher level in general. Objectively speaking, I think they were a bit better on both sides of the line of scrimmage today, and made enough plays to win. I think the difference in the game (other than the usual handful of plays that could have swung the game one way or the other for either team)was the time of possession. Personnel wise, I don't know if Jenkins is out (or did he lose his job?) but, I think eventually, the Falcons will need another threat to emerge on the other side of the field , and if not, maybe a second TE that can stretch the defense. Roddy White certainly did his part but, I think a good defensive team may be able to have some success if the Falcons don't find another threat somewhere. It could be the groin but, I also thought Turner looked really slow hitting the hole. I hate to say that because that only makes our defensive performance that much worse but, I'd be lying if I said otherwise. Overall, I think the Falcons have enough to contend in the NFC which doesn't look as top heavy as it did coming into the year.

As a Saints fan, no one (with any sense) thought this year was gonna be easy but, I really think the offense can be even better than last year, and who know's about the defense. I can only hope for the best there but a little help on that side of the ball will go a long way. Looking forward to the rematch, and the rest of the season in general. I've been watching the Saints since '69 and these last few years have certainly been a lot more fun to watch. Good luck to the Falcons, I mean, I dont really pull for them personally unless they play Dallas but, I'd like to see them stay healthy and may the best team emerge.

I'm sure we'll have another good rematch on the last Monday Night game of the year. Good luck until then! +1 for coming back.

More than likely the rematch will be equally as entertaining and down to the wire...as I believe Desert Falcon said in another thread, these kinds of games spike the h**l out of your blood pressure!

Saints did play poorly, i don't know if that sells the falcon's short, but Saints played extremely poorly offensively today, Defensively it was hot/cold they did enough to keep falcon's from having their way the entire game, i wont say the offense was Horrid they did score score quickly when needed but the mistakes trumped those efforts, both teams missed out on distancing themselves on the scoreboard, so i'll have to say of both teams playing bad, Falcon's played less worse than we did, their time of possession and ability to drive down almost at will most of the time kept our offense off the field long enough to keep us from achieving more scores, so Atlanta's time management is what did it in for us, if it wasn't planned they should add that to their playbooks, keeping offensive teams off the field is what worked for them.

Bravo to both teams, props to Atlanta fallcons though, that was the most entertaining game a fan of football "PERIOD" could watch, this is why i even watch these games..

Good post Harmon. Yeah, Michael Jenkins is still battling the shoulder injury he suffered about 7 weeks ago. He missed most of training camp and is still hurting. He had limited practices this week so hopefully he will be back soon. I think we really do miss him even though he's never really had a big game.

I would say the Saints really need to improve their rushing game and their run defense, though I think the Saints did good until they started getting worn down. Matt was having to make throws to move the chains early.

The Falcons had the ball for over 3 quarters worth of time. I don't care who you are, it's tough to win when the other team does that to you. Though I think Manning beat the Dolphins last year with only 15 or so minutes of possession on Monday Night Football ( every play was a quick strike it seemed).

Well, you and I know the Saints can play better and can point out a lot of things because we know this team but, I'm sure Falcon fans may be able to say the same. Since they got it done on the road, I thought the right thing to do was not dwell on our miscues, and give them the credit they deserve but generally, I agree that our offense could be better than ever this year if we put it together.

That is definitely our MO. We are built for ball control. We are not really a quick strike team but we are capable of doing so. We are a physical team that will wear out our opponents and the clock. Most of our games, you will see us on the plus side of TOP (usually around 38 minutes).

And now we have a defense that will give our offense more opportunities to control that ball. We could be dangerous. Of course we did give the ball back to our offense quick a couple of times due to quick scores by the Saints, lol.
