Even the questionable replay call couldn't stop us!

Recommended Posts

OK,

I know I'll probably hear it from saints fans by bringing this up but it needs to be said. The officials pretty much spotted N.O. a free touchdown and we still won.

The call on the field on the punt was Atlanta ball and it's supposed to take overwhelming evidence to overturn the call on the field. Now granted the ball hit DeCoud on the foot but there were so many questionable areas in the replay about whether he was out when it hit him and whether the saints established possession without being out of bounds themselves that I was just livid when they reversed the on field call. Replay is not supposed to work that way. When it can clearly go either way, you stick with the on field call.

Thankfully we won anyway. I think we really proved today that we can take these guys. Both games last season were extremely close and I don't think today would have even been that close had it not been for two plays, the punt return and the busted coverage on the long bomb to Lance Moore.

We pretty much dominated a lot of the game. I love the Morten Andersen quote on the Fox 5 fifth quarter. "Atlanta didn't steal the game from the saints, they took it from them!"

On another note, could someone please PM me the url for the new message board that everyone is so high on? This is once again ridiculous how hard it is the get on this board on game day. You'd think as great a team and organization as we have that we could get some decent servers that would handle the load that they know is coming after a big win like this.

Clearly?? You must have super vision or something. There was nothing clear about it and that's the whole point.

On one angle it looked as if Decoud had stepped out by the time the ball hit him and on another, it didn't. The time of him stepping out and the ball hitting him was almost instantaneous. The fact of whether the saints established possession was also questionable. It was inconclusive. There is supposed to be indisputable visual evidence to overturn an on field call and it wasn't there.

The alledged fumble by Snelling was clear. The evidence was indisputable that there was no fumble. I think even saints fans would agree on that one.

I'm not going to argue it too much though. We overcame it and won which is what's important.

Well I'll just have to agree to disagree with you guys.I just watched it again on the highlights and it could have gone either way which is not supposed to be enough to overturn the call on the field. As I said, the important thing is that we won. Good teams overcome questionable calls. We have a good team, maybe even a great one but it's still early in the season yet.

That was CLEARLY New Orelans' ball.

Not sure what play you were watching.

agree, that was pretty clear cut. Ball hit DeCoud, saint caught the ball before going out (and ref said he established control, so taint's ball right there), then pitched to another taint inbounds, so still taints ball.

It was the correct call ... but incredibly unlucky for the Falcons.

It almost lead to a suck out ... again.

Their player runs into our player who runs into Weems (so they can't call interference on New Orleans).

Then the comedy of events that lead to their long snapper dragging two feet behind.

Good call ... but the football gods were not going to let us lose because of that ... not this time.

Not that it matters. Butif you or others who said it was good call think there was

"overwhelming evidence" Then your better then even sports casters cause they said LOOKING at the replay they were not sure there was "overwhelming evidence" and they have lot beter camera angles then anyone at home

That was one of the freakiest plays that I have ever seen. It looked like they probably should have had the ball, but there were so many things going on during that play. I'm just glad I wasn't responsible for deciding the outcome of that one. I'm glad that didn't give the game away for us.

I agree with everyone else. It sucks, but replay clearly showed the ball hitting Decoud, and saints recovering the ball in bounds. There was NO Way that call wouldnt be overturned. The replay is in place for those type situations.

I know we aren't going to change your opinion, but have you ever thought about LASIK surgery? Obviously you need your eyes checked...Still using a black and white TV?

The muffed punt and the Snelling non-fumble were perfect examples of how the replay-challenge system is supposed to work.

Yeah, that was another one. Snelling was definitely down on the ground when he had the ball ripped out. One thought about that though. Snelling was telling our side that he was down. I remember hearing Billick say that "they're always going to say they were down though". No offense towards him, but I think they won't if they're high character guys.
