I think Smith will be brought along slowly - maybe very slowly. Jerious' role in the offense had diminished to the point of being almost non-existent, so there's no reason to think the staff will be pressured to plug Smith in straightaway. And he still has a lot to learn - protection schemes, blitz pickups, and especially hot reads don't seem to be a reliable part of his repertoire yet.

For the last time he is on the 53 man roster. Believe me TD and Smith see something in this guy. Remember Snelling spent a lot of time on the practice squad before he got the added to the 53. Lets see what he can do

yes he is on 53 man roster, but we cant have him put the ball on the turf this week man....

hes a blazer

but he had problems all offseason and preseason hanging on to the rock

and yes it was nance on the ps , GB signed him to their 53 last week.... hes gone

There are 52 players listed on our depth chart.

Even the innactive players are listed.

Smith is the only roster player not listed on the depth chart.

(James is on Roster but not on depth chart - but thats because he is suspended)

Then I can only assume it is because the depth chart only goes 3 deep, and they haven't removed Norwood yet.

The Depth chart only goes 3 deep because there are very very few 4th string players

Smith is the only one.

ADDED

James is 3 deep but he does not count as one of the 53 while he is suspended

jerious role was diminished because he couldnt stay healthy, everyone knows that, its hard to have a role when u cant play, i think thats the whole reason y we got a back with similar traits as jerious, so if he had got hurt, there wouldnt be a fall off....

Norwood was the third down back. Who ever picks up his snaps will need to be good in pass protection and know the rb passing routes. Mughelli, Turner, and Snelling seem best equipped to fill in for him rather than turning over those duties to someone as inexperienced as Smith. Perhaps Smith will get some action to help reduce Turner's workload, and Booby will get more 3rd down action since he is very good in pass protection and catching the ball out of the backfield.

I still wish Nance was on the squad.

Yes I liked Nance but I think keeping Smith on the 53 and Nance on the PS was the right move.

With Smith it looks like this

Power backs Turner Snelling Ovie

Speed backs Norwood Smith

with Nance it would have looked like this

Power backs Turner Snelling Ovie Nance

Speed backs Norwood

I agree completely - my point was only that the Falcons found ways to work around Jerious' injury problems, and the offense doesn't rely on a speed back. I'd love to see A. Smith take over the role and restore that aspect of the Falcons game.

You have a good point. But I think Nance is a balance back between, a speedster and powerback.

I see people say this a lot but I don't think anyone is brought along slowly. They pretty much throw as much as they can at you and decide where you can contribute based on how you perform. If they thought he could take Norwood's place in full or part he will be in the game on Sunday.
