If Mularkey is fired here is the next OC

Seeing how we like to stay the course, I believe if there is a change the new OC would be Musgrave. He has had a

little bit of experience as an OC.(and I do mean a little) Towards the end of the 98 season he called the plays

for Philly. In 2000 he was OC for Carolina for only 4 games and resigned. He was OC in Jax in 03 and 04. I don't

know the reason why he didn't seem to be successful as an OC tho. Maybe it was b/c he was younger and inexperienced

or at least that's what I'm hoping. But it makes you wonder why he was promoted to Assistant HC/QB coach this year

and not Mularkey. Especially since Mularkey has been a HC before. But maybe those are just "titles". I don't know

what's the higher/better position. But I believe if Mularkey is let go Musgrave will get first shot at being OC.

It seems like this regime likes the continuity. They even kept McKay on. And don't forget Houston and I think

Chicago considered Musgrave for OC this year.(not exactly sure on Chicago. I might be getting that 1 mixed up with

Id do it in a heartbeat but it's ryan that's the problem, not the OC. Mularkey doesn't call plays that involve Ryan throwing the ball to the other team.

What is a ball control offense you ask? Well it's where we try to establish the run, take deep shots off of play action, and move the chains with quick timing routes(dink and dunk). I wouldnt have a problem with Musgrave calling the Plays. But the scheme does work, dont change that and make everybody re-learn a new scheme. It's just the play-calling that is killing us.

You're probably right. That picture is messed up. Why show Ryan knocked down like that? Some of the greatest athletes become great because they are able to get back up after getting knocked down. It's what drives the great ones. So if that picture is suppose to be an inside joke by him, I suggest he try harder.

I'm not the one getting paid millions of dollars to play/coach football, I want the guys getting paid to find a solution. that's Matt Ryan, Coach Smith, TD, Mularkey...these are the guys responsible, I'm not sure what your think but we have all the pieces I believe to have an elite team now, It's a combination of bad coaching (playcalling) and bad QB play that keeps us from taking that next step. hopefully I'm overreacting and Ryan just had 1 bad game, but I'm not going to pretend like everything is okay like the rest of these people.

Musgrave is awful as an OC, but he is a superb QB coach. He should continue to be our QB coach unless he decides to go elsewhere.

I don't feel the need to neg you (you're free to think and say what you want). I do agree with you that TD and company need to man up and fix our red zone issues. For our scheme to work, we have to get touchdowns instead of of field goals. I am not drinking the "all is well kool-aid." Just my humble opinion, I do think people are over reacting a little. Again, I must ask though...what specifically do you not like about the play-calling? I hear people constantly complaining about that. It's like the new dirty word (play-calling).

I think Musgrave was promoted to assistant head coach so that another team couldnt offer him a OC job thus keeping stability for our young QB

OK...that doesn't really explain your issue with the play-calling IMO. The greatest feature of the ball control offense is like Lombardi football...that power sweep play they used to run. Everyone knew what was coming but they couldn't stop it. Most modern offenses aren't really doing anything innovative. It's all been seen or done. It's really about the defense recognizing the play, reacting accordingly, and making the sure tackle. So my point is predictable is all in the eye of the beholder. I think we are trying to build a physical football team that doesn't back down. A team that could run the ball all day until you stop it or a team that will complete those ten yard outs all day and make you have to tackle a White, Norwood, HD, or Gonzo in space. The play-calling was the same in 08. The difference now is that we can't play the Rams, the Chiefs or any other weak tackling team every Sunday.

I think this will be a top 10 offense when the dust settles on the season, so I don't think MM gets the axe. I do agree with you that Musgrave would be the likely replacement.

You really never know who might become available though... A head coach like Brad Childress, who was a very good offensive coordinator, could get the axe. Or Ken Wisenhunt would be a good fit here. Also a guy like Kevin Gillbride, who's done a good job for NYG, could come available if Coughlin gets fired. Maybe even someone like Brian Billick. One thing we know is that working with our offensive talent, working for Mr. Blank, coaching under a HC like Smitty- these are all pretty strong draws if we are ever in the market for a new OC.
