Bring It
Here we go. Another home opener, this Sunday at the Dome. Technically it will be a sellout but 8-9,000 fans will mysteriously not show up. Excuses abound..........everything you can think of.Does this happen in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Dallas, etc. ??Fifteen minutes before the starting time the seats will be half empty. HALF EMPTY.Does this happen in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Dallas, etc. ??During the game the noise level will be rather quiet 80% of the time only rising to a roar if Atlanta scores on a big play, which actually happens once in a while; or on an opponents crucial 3rd or 4th down, but it's got to be crucial.Does this happen in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Dallas, etc. ??Finally, somewhere in the middle of the 4th quarter there will be the start of a migration of fans similar to the serengeti wildebeest phenomenon in East Africa. After all, all those folks have got to get into their BMW's and Mercedes to avoid the one thing they can't cope with..........standing in a line of traffic for over 5 minutes.Does this happen in Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Dallas, etc. ??Anyway...........opening day is upon us.Interesting.Go Falcons !!!!!!!! crankdatfalcon
i sure hope we have a different fan base this season, a fan base that gets in their seats before during the pregame activities.
pr0d1gy
I took my son to see a game a couple of years ago and I felt like a total jackass screaming and getting into the game because my whole section was just sitting there looking at me like I was a moron. I haven't wanted to go to a game since. It might have been the single worst experience I have ever had at a sporting event. Even the Braves fans are more into it than the people at the Dome on Sunday.

Delosky
i sure hope we have a different fan base this season, a fan base that gets in their seats before during the pregame activities.Um, it hasn't changed in 44 years, what makes you think it will change again? I for one will get to Lot C around 11:00 to get the grill going and some beers in me. I'll head for the stadium around 12:15 and should be in my seat with my banner hanging over the mezzanine at Section 206 by 12:50 with beer in hand. Some say church. Some say traffic. I say complacency. Heck, when I take MARTA to Vine City when I don't tailgate, there are hundreds of fans still tailgating across the street at 12:45. I know those people aren't getting in the stadium before the end of the first quarter.Atlanta fans in general just don't get hyped up enough to get to the game extra early. It's a shame too, because it looks horible on TV for national televised games and I'm sure the players love playing for a stadium half-full. I mean NON STOP bedlam. It was wild.It was great.I feel sorry for the Falcons, who never get that kind of un-bridled enthusiasm where the Dome roof is in danger of blowing off. Not even close.Sad. The place was rocking from 10 minutes before kickoff until the game ended.A sign of what could be, but might be wishful thinking.

Old fan
I think you are preaching to the choir. Most fans who care enough about the team to read this board don't do those things at the game. What do the teams you mentioned have in common? LOTS of playoff experience. After our fans have experienced several high-energy playoff games, things will change at the dome.

As long as the Dome sells white wine they will be there, at least for an hour or two.
