CalDawg
Watching Caleb run for the last year, it seems like he doesn't use his vision as well as he did in HS. In last weekend's game, Caleb had several runs where he should have broken to the outside instead of going where the play was designed to go. There was one play where the entire right side of the field was wide open. Caleb could have scored but instead he ran straight into the line and gained two yards. I don't know how he couldn't have seen that there was nobody over there. Just wondering if our RB's are being coached out of using their instincts. Knowshon was pretty good at popping one outside if it opened up. Caleb and Carlton have great ability to bounce out without losing speed. I'd like to see them use their vision a bit more, rather than just hitting the designed gap if it's not there. Mr Pickle1
He's just slower and less confident than he was in HS. I see Carlton, and Ealey last year, bounce to the hole often. Even King did it sometimes last year. Wasn't evident in the opener, however. King just lost his burst with the busted leg.

The jump in talent and speed from high school to a BCS conference is just ridiculous. No, he's slower. I watched his HS film over and over, I was so excited by the prospect of him being a dawg. He had this ability to cut back and just accelerate through the cut, and blow by guys. You could just watch his feet and be blown away at the speed. It's not there anymore. Carlton Thomas looks just as fast and explosive as he did on tape in HS.
#1 pick
He topped out in HS, it happens to some kids. King was at his best at Parkview as a FR and Soph.

kingjamez
King was not at his best as a HS freshman, that might be the dumbest thing I've heard all day. Stop doubting the ******** kid because of how he just performed against Lousiana-Lafayette, and he didn't even perform poorly. Previous years are irrelevent to me because he was clearly bothered by injuries and that kept him out for long stretches of time.

This thread is much ado about nothing IMO.I don't understand your reply. I'm saying that why does King look slower now compared to HS, when Carlton Thomas looks just as quick and explosive? The YPC and big plays will of course go down when you move from HS to college, but just physically isolating your vision to one player and yardage markers, players should NOT be looking slower in college than in HS. If anything, they should get a little faster. I feel that I have a good eye for speed, and King looks slower than he did in HS. Carlton Thomas looks as fast or even a tad faster. Since I'm making both comparisons from comparing HS tape to college tape, there shouldn't be this inconsistency...unless of course King actually got slower. Testasparo
I don't understand your reply. I'm saying that why does King look slower now compared to HSBECAUSE EVERYBODY AROUND HIM IS FASTER. Three people have said this already but you're ignoring it.
Mr Pickle1
BECAUSE EVERYBODY AROUND HIM IS FASTER. Three people have said this already but you're ignoring it.I'm not ignoring it, I'm addressing it. I considered that, I looked at it. Notice how not only do I state that I'm isolating King on the film and just looking at him and yardage markers. The players around him aren't considered. And another point I brought up was Carlton Thomas. Let's go step by step, since this REALLY seems to be a difficult connection for people to make.1. Everyone else's thought is that King looks slower because everyone around him is faster, and it is merely an illusion due to increased speed all over the field. Okay. 2. Carlton Thomas played in HS, just like King.3. CT has HS and college game film, just like King.4. The team speed on the field when CT plays is the same team speed on the field when CK plays.5. CK looks just as fast or faster in College than he did in HS.6. WHy didn't CT look slower in terms of perceived speed, like Caleb, in the jump from HS to College? Answer: Because he didn't get slower, in fact, he might have gotten a little faster, and if you actually watch the player, not the guys around him, you can actually see how fast he is, not how fast he looks compared to the guys around him. King slowed down. CT maintained or sped up. Apples to apples comparison, and King's apple isn't as good.
