hawkeye
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- One day after trying out several defensive backs, the Baltimore Ravens signed former Purdue cornerback David Pender to the practice squad.Pender tried out Tuesday along with defensive backs Chevis Jackson, Lydell Sargeant and Terrail Lambert. The Ravens tried to convince cornerback Prince Miller to rejoin the team on the practice squad after being cut from the active roster Sunday, but he signed with the New England Patriots.Pender is a former Purdue player who was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 3. He went undrafted this spring."I'm just real grateful," Pender said. "I give all the thanks to God for the opportunity and to the Ravens to be here. I'm just real grateful for the opportunity. The tryout went real good."I'm assuming I had the best 40 time and I feel like I looked the best out of the DBs they brought in. I came in and did everything I had to do and impressed the coaches.Pender deflected 33 career passes at Purdue, second behind Steve Jackson's all-time record.A three-year starter, Pender recorded 129 career tackles and three interceptions.http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Ravens-sign-David-Pender-to-practice-squad.htmlI guess Chevis was too slow. He is only a NB.
g-dawg
wow - I guess when your source for a story is someone called "sportsfreak" - maybe that is a sign that its not on the best authority, huh?
Dr. Billings
This is good news. It was smart on Pittsburgh's behalf. Can you imagine if Pitt had chosen Chevis, the secrets he would have shared? He may have spoken too soon. Thus, he wasn't chosen.

Chevis tried out for the Ravens, not the Steelers.
Peyton
So, how is the Ravens signing someone to their practice squad proof that they didn't sign Chevis Jackson? I don't get it.

hawkeye
So, how is the Ravens signing someone to their practice squad proof that they didn't sign Chevis Jackson? I don't get it.Don't you think that if he was signed at all they would've also mentioned that while Pender was signed to the PS,they also signed Chevis to the 53. They wouldn't just mentioned one and not the other. They have no other newsabout Chevis. I saw yesterday that their intentions were to sign a CB for the PS anyway. Not 53. g-dawg
your right he will not be signed to their PS :wacko:falcon057,not to bash you because from what I recall you are a good messageboard member - but weren't you the one that reported Chevis to Ravens? Not 53.Well there are a lot of different things that could be happening. For one, they could be figuring out how to make room on the roster. Either way, signing someone to their practice squad isn't proof that they aren't adding Chevis to the active roster. Two completely different scenarios. If he did, he got it from SporsFreak, who has a pretty impressive record of inside information here.
hawkeye
I'm told that the Ravens tried out a few cornerbacks today and will likely add one to practice squad. This was yesterday. Maybe they will sign him later to the 53. Who knows. Or maybe they just wanted to see what hehad, kinda like what we did w/ Webster.

Knight of God
Whoa! My cousin told me a few eeks before Chevis was cut that the Ravens were interested. He works for V. Newsome. This may not be the end of this.SportsFreak was half right if not entirely and just note that I have never taken up for her and tend not to even care what she says, but this one isn't all the way over yet. That is a sign it's on excellent authority. (Even if this particular case turns out to be the first time she was wrong).
SportsFreak
He was not signed...the person that told me that was NOT a source, it was just a conversation between friends.
