What I think about Pittsburgh

It will be a tough game...it is week 1, we are just starting and are going into a hostile environment....that said, we can not stall in the red zone, and if we can convert FG's when just outside the red zone, then we should get the W. Our D should have a good game.

ATL- 17 PIT- 7

you heard it here 1st!

dude, that was last year. steeler fans could easily pull our loss to carolina or the giants and say we suck.

Giants and Carolina are mediocre teams- Steelers also lost to Cleveland- they lost to 3 bad teams.

It's kind of funny to me that this board constantly plays the "injury card", but people do not consider that Troy Polamalu missed almost the entire season last year. It's not the same defense without him.

And they lost to KC, Cleveland and Oakland- one player made that much difference? How does a good team lose to 3 bottomfeeders?

OK, fair enough. They also beat the Packers, Vikings, Ravens, and the Chargers - four teams with a combined record of 45-19.

So how does a bad team beat all of those good teams?

I mean, you can play this game all day. If your thinking this game is going to be easy, I think you are badly mistaken.

The formula to beat the Steelers defense is simple, and proven. A quick, accurate, short passing game negates the Polamalu effect. Mix in some screens, use play action if you want to go deep early in a series. The pass rush come almost exclusively from the outside linebackers. Ryan gets the ball out of his hand before they get there, and the pass rush is ineffective. Keep doing that and defensive backs will come on a blitz, which mean someone, probably the TE, is open. Many times receivers are covered by the defensive ends in the flat or the first few yards of the pass pattern. Surely Turner the Burner can get open against Aaron Smith. Best case scenario: do all that from the no huddle package.

The problem is, few teams can do it.

If Ryan worries about the pre-snap movement and is confused about the play called and whether it will still work because the Steelers are jumping all around, then the battle is lost before the ball is snapped. However, if he gets in a rhythm, ignores the pre-snap movement and justs reads his progressions, he can play pitch and catch.

Countless examples out there to follow, most recently the Giants 3rd string QB directing a TD drive against the Steeler first team defense in the second pre-season game this year. Granted, teams don't game plan in the pre-season, and the defense looked pretty vanilla, but they still marched down the field and scored easily.

There are also many more examples of quarterbacks not trusting their instincts and what they know to be true, holding the ball a little too long, moving out of the pocket unnecessarily, and generally being confused into mistakes, combined with double teams not being able to block Woodley and Harrison and superhuman efforts by #43.

Time will tell what category Matt Ryan and the Falcons fall into.

My comments are reaction to this idea that the falcons are going to be playing the steel curtain II.

You can't find a quote from me where I said this game was going to be easy. I have said repeatedly that it's a winnable game for the falcons.

I do think the Pitt D has more holes in it than people realize- Steeler D gave up one fewer point than the Falcon D last year.

We beat the number #1 defense last year in the frigid cold winds at the Meadowlands with a QB suffering from turf toe, a banged up OL, not Burner, and no HD83. 10-7.

Dennis Dixon may be athletic but he was a fifth round pick because of decision making, not talent. Look at his preseason stats. 2 TDs and 2 INTs. And he played significantly more than most QBs. I think if we send the blitzes we sent against MIA we can win. Hines Ward can't beat you single handedly. Mike Wallace can be contained. And we are adept at stopping the run. Nothing special. If we cause a few turnovers (which we are good for in opening games) and win the field position game, we walk away with a W.

This post wasn't about who beat who, because Ben and #10 were still on offense. It was about sorry teams putting up big numbers against their vaulted D

If we can avoid offensive turnovers, we can win this game easily. A pick 6 or a fumble deep in our territory are the only things that can really kill us. We don't have to put 28 up on the board to win this game. if we can put Spoon on Dixon like Derrick brooks used to spy Vick, I think we have a good shot of neutralizing any threat from their offense.

whatever

Thk U sir may I have another

It takes me back to Dennis Green... "They were what we thought they were"!

I don't want to read any more threads of you pansies crying about how Great their def is. They suck. They have no receivers, they have no QB and they let the Raiders beat them in their own house. THEY SUCK!

Oh boy. Don't set yourself up for a letdown their, chief. To my understanding, this is 2010 and your squad has proven jack as of yet ;) It'll be a good game. The Steelers are the last team you want to overlook with overconfidence, trust me. Even though I think your team will be OUTSTANDING this year,us sucking brought us the same record in 2009 as your squad. Just a warning for not to expect any blowouts. We have a good and could have a great team. Noones talking about us. I like that.

I am with you 100%. In the NFL there are rarely ever easy games. But this is the Steelers we are talking about and they will play tough physical football.

Can we beat them? Yes.

Can we out-physical them? Yes.

Will it be easy? Hail no.

I am a homer and everyone around here knows it, but I agree with you, especially on the two things bolded. I expect us to win, but I know it will be tough and I hope the physical nature of the war does not leaves us(or you guys) with a rash of injuries.

add this: I hope we do not try and overlook anyone and get cocky or over confident, because therein lies madness.

I promoting a mindset. The last trwo times we played we didn't stand a chance according to the experts, stats and prior performances. The end result was a tie and a victory for the Falcons. all of it because they didn't buy into the hype. who says we can't run? Who says We can't pass? Who says we can't put points up against them with Pollyhairdo in the line up? Certainly not me.

The Steelers are overrated. Punch them in the mouth and they bleed like everybody else. That's all I'm saying.
