falconfanEST1989
before you start to try to blast me hear me out. there is a reason that teams like THE STEELERS, PATRIOTS, EAGLES, continue to have successful season, because they know how to cut the loss of players and the falcons dont. i know what youre thinking, "but we got rid of Brooking" youre right there, but what did we get for him?, nothing. the eagles steelers and pats are great at letting talent go and acquiring someone just as good cheaper from free agents and other teams.. IMO jenkins is hurt the falcons shouldve tried very hard to sign TJ. Ravens got him for 1 year. that means this an only this THEY ARE COMMITTED TO WINNING A SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR,. they are trying to give Flacco the weapons to succeed . and **** no Flacco is not better than Ryan.. ryan had better numbers as a rookie and second year starter, if you count only 14 games by Flacco. it is well known that and ACL tear take 2 years to be mentally and physically read to play. i like HD but not a year removed from ACL surgery, im sorry. now i am very optimistic but i have to play devils advocate here. i believe the falcons will have a good year this year. but at the end of the season if the falcons lose in the playoffs or dont make it, i can guarantee that 90% of this message board will be screaming for a legit #2 WR to compliment Roddy White. TJ couldave been that guy. and for all you that think TJ is not good, give me a break in the right system and with an elite number 1 on the other side, he is 10 times better than any #2 we have, beside gonzo. These are the same people that called me every name in the book for saying we needed to upgrade the secondary last off season. We all know how that turned out. atljbo
T.J would have been good for that price but if the staff thinks Jenkins is ready.... Why do the signing ?I disagree with the original poster... I feel like we are building our team like the dynasty type teams... Draft good players that will develop into future starters and bring in some impact FA's here and there. We are good ... Like i said.. i dont think it would have been a make or break typw signing... Another thing... Any one who has seen T.J Houshmandzadeh play... Dude does his damage at the slot WR spot.... I'm pretty sure he will play the slot for the ravens... We have HD in the slot... You may not like him a year removed from that ACL tear but dude was HD-ish (2008 style) ... Doesnt look slower or anything.. He looks like he is ready to go. Karst41
You say that we will never be a DynastyI say that in 2008 we all witnessed the Birth of a Dynasty.I fell in love with the NFL in 1961 at age 5 and have seenwhat Dynasties are all about, how they begin, how they are built and how theyare maintained. While some dynasties never won a Lombardi, one thing remains as a constant. Those teams gave their fans a ton of victories during the regular and post season. This team is being built in the right way, Starting from the Front Office all the way down to the Equipment guy.Every Old Timer on these forums will attest to this, and in due time you will too.So to this I say.Take a seat my Fine Feathered Fiend, and relish every bit of what is unfolding before our eyes. Nice post. You too, karst. I'm not gonna sit back, and pretend that the receiver corps as it stands now is not a concern in my view. But you never know who's going to step up. Jenks could have another year like 2008. Finn could be playing his arse off seeing that his FB career is growing shorter. Even Strickland has a shot at making a difference. I don't "hate" Jenkins, but it is hard to argue against mediocre performance and a questionable shoulder injury, on a guy who was already having troubles playing "clutch". Durrty
Sorry OP, I can't agree with you here.Right now, we don't have any room to let go talented players like Lofton, DeCoud, or Babineaux. So, you kind of misfired on trying to compare us to the Steelers, Patriots, and Eagles. The Steelers defense is old and decimated. The Patriots defense is hurting really bad, especially in the secondary. The Eagles are well, hurting on both sides of the ball.IMO, the only people that are expendable are the OL players. Jenkins isn't even expendable at this point because bringing in TJ would only hinder the offense. They've showed signs of struggling during the preseason, which can be corrected, but to bring another player in who doesn't know the system won't help them either. It'll probably hurt them even more. I'm all for starting the season off firing on all cylinders, piling as many wins as we can so when the latter part of the season hits, we'll be in good position to win a playoff spot. Man, could everyone just settle down and stop counting out the Falcons before a freakin' snap is even taken???
AtlantaFalconPokerPro
I disagree with you. How do you know that the Falcons didn't try and sign Housh? People act like it's the Falcons decision where TJ goes. TJ Housh is the one that decides where he goes. I've been really hard on Jenkins for the balls he's dropped in crucial moments, but at the same time understand his worth. I'm seeing a lot of posters undervaluing Jenkins. You say TD doesn't give Matty Ice the weapons he needs to succeed, yet he signs TG, Extends Roddy's contract, drafts to beef up the oline, and don't forget that TD signed the best RB in the FA market 2 years ago. Months ago we were all complaining about our DB's, and what do we get... The best CB in the FA market. The complaining is getting extremely old. TD has said from the beginning that were gonna build our team through the draft. I'm not sure why so many posters get shocked when we don't bring in every player that gets cut. harveybirdman
Of all the arguments you could make to support your thesis you chose the fact that we didn't sign a washed up receiver after roster cuts?

Captain Falcon
How soon is soon? How do know they don't already have a long-term game plan to address the WR position? We have a decent long term plan. Next year we get Meier on top of having some other good options. But this is our year . I think that is why people are wanting us to do things this year. If things go well, this could be our year.

JA(* shouldve been gone at least we coulve got something outta him, Im sorry but Jenkins shouldve been gone. I love Brian Fin, think he is a great player/ person, but my 80 year old grandmother has better knees than him why do we continue to keep him on the roster and cut guy we DRAFT, (for the build a dynasty through draft guys), ie Wolfe. fin stays on IR every year. just like all of you, i want a Dynasty, but i want a SUPER BOWL NOW!!!!!!!! not 3 years from now. FalconMama
I will say this about Jenkins... I think this is a do or die year for him.. He has to play like the 2008 season.I agree with this, I don't see how Jenkins can remain on this team much longer if he doesn't contribute this year. Same with Chauncey Davis they better show something this year or they will both be gone next year. These have been 2 unsuccessful re-signings thus far in the TD era. I wanted TJ and I'm a little bummed that we didn't get him but ah well. Let's hope Roddy remains injury free and that we address the WR position in the draft next year. Our coaching staff takes a look at a person's whole body of work, not just what they do in a game. We're farther along than what we should be. This was suppose to be 5-6 year process, but we're ahead of schedule and you're complaining. That's the problem with people today they want everything right now. Rome was not built in a day and this team will not be built within 2-3 years. We're lucky we're ahead of the curve, but that's because of careful evaluation of our draft choices over the past 2-3 years. We're a young team still growing and learning. I like the fact that this team is being built for the long haul, not just 1 year and done like you want it.
