What effect will a dominant defensive season from UGA have on defensive recruiting?

I think any time you have good offense/defense on a consistant basis, you get more high profile players. I don't think one good year will be enough to "feed the monster" so to speak. It will get us a couple of good/great defensive players, but we won't be getting those players on a more consistant basis until our defense is a PROVEN defense and not just a one year wonder.

My thoughts are that as long as our defense is consistent and creates big plays then its only a matter of time before big time recruits take notice. Putting players in the league also matters. Our offense has helped us get big time recruits due to the boys we've put in the league, the same needs to happen with the defense.

But honestly, I would prefer UGA to focus the majority of the recruiting efforts here in the state of GA. Plenty of talent here in the state, plus I think it means something for a kid to play for their home school. I'm not opposed to offering out of state to the elite recruits, but lets make sure we get all the top GA boys first.

That will make all the difference IMO.

Example A: Alabama

- look at the recruits they are bringing in on the defensive side of the ball. This is all because of a great defensive mind and a dominating defense.

Xzavier Dickson, Ray Drew, Gabe Wright -- those three in particular will be Dawgs if our defense is dominating. Now they could all very well be Dawgs if our defense is improved but inconsistent but they would be locks if our defense was dominant. The best players want to play in the best system with the best coaches.

As a result of CMR firing our entire defensive coaching staff, it kind of gave recruits the idea of instability within our program. Even the kids in GA were skeptical and they want to see what this new defense looks like and what it has the potential to be.

I'm a big believer in that it's not only what we do, but how we do it. Willie's defense was not that bad statistically (except for 2009) but looked horrible, and was not very effective. If we get the same sort of statistical numbers with CTG, but in an aggressive manner, that alone would attract recruits.

I think we'll be much better statistically and would be bringing it aggressively. That would be huge for recruits- they'll be thinking of all the pressures and sacks and interceptions they can make.

this comment above.. we can't emphasize enough how huge a dominating defense is to this 2011 recruiting class. we have that dominating defense we clean up with our top targets on the Defense.

Sac, saw where Bama picked up another DT (Jimmy Williams was his name I think)...looking like Auburn or UGA for Gabe Wright...

yeah gabe not going to bama was something known for a while.. if they want to play together it will be uga not auburn, but i doubt they play together at the next level.

Agreed. Why didn't Bama send anyone to the Carver/Buford game...pretty surprising to me...I would have loved to see all of coaches faces after they saw Crowell and Richts hug on the Carver sideline...just plain awesome :)

Yes sir, you have and I completely agree with your assessment. I just hope he goes ahead and makes his choice known after his visit to the UGA campus for the Arkansas game (will be pulling for Penn St. to beat Bamas eyes out when Crowell is their visiting as well :))

Let's see how good the defense really is first. Saturday will give you a better idea of what you really have.

i think our defense will give up more than many fans expect this coming weekend.. first sec road game against a spurrier coached offense that is going to screen us to death. i don't see them scoring a ton, but they will be able to move the ball.. we just have to hope our offense can have some longer drives to keep them off the field. i think we will see what we really have though half way through the year. i won't get down if we don't have a shutout or 1 score game defensively this weekend. the arkansas game will be tough because patrino will actually have some film on our defense something spurrier doesn't have for this coming week.. we were very vanilla this past weekend offensively and defensively (as are most teams in these early games).

again getting jarvis has been huge for us at carver (i know you know this already).. i am excited to see what he does on the field next year and in recruiting this year.

Most definitely agree...getting Jarvis Jones to commit to us is paying/will pay huge dividends in not only this year's class but in the next few to come (i.e. Deion Bonner). I think Crowell comes to UGA, but I still think Wright commits to AU (they don't have much depth on the D-Line). However, I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with us either...will be an interesting few months...we really need our team to do well in our to put the finishing touches on an excellent class.
