Chavis Release

Not surprised by the cut just disappointed that Chevis didn't become the player that I once thought he could be.

x2. He had such promise. Then this preseason he looked like a scared rookie. I was hoping we could get a pick or something for him, but I guess the other teams were watching him getting burned to ashes as well. RIP Chevis

Chevis Jackson was used incorrectly in the pre-season, he is not a No 1 corner never will be, but I believe he will be a starting Nickelback in this league, look for a team running the cover-2 to pick him up, maybe Indy? Bank on it.

I think our scheme just changed, and he no longer fit, in 08, we played zone alot, and he was good, then last year we started playing more man, and blitzing. he was a just cut because of the depth we have with Robinson,Owens, Grimes, Franks and williams.

What are you talking about? They played him at nickel and he still got beat.

Personally I think he was awesome as a rookie but just never was fast enough to play nickel in this league. That showed last season. He is a solid tackler though

Here is what Pat had to say...

Biggest surprise: There really are no major surprises here. But cornerback Chevis Jackson is a guy that once was viewed as having a lot of potential, and he’s fallen by the wayside. Consider that a sign of how much the Falcons think they’ve upgraded their cornerback group by drafting cornerback Christopher Owens last year and Dominique Franks this year, and the signing of free-agent Dunta Robinson. Jackson also had some special-teams ability, but Franks can fill that role. Jackson still has practice-squad eligibility, but there’s a decent chance he might get picked

From CBS:

Chevis Jackson, CB, Falcons

The competition for the starting cornerback job opposite Dunta Robinson has been so fierce that you forget about any Falcon corners being on the roster bubble. This explains the mild sense of astonishment we’re all feeling when we hear that Jackson, a third-round pick in 2008, has been waived. In his two years with Atlanta, Jackson mostly competed for reps at the nickel position. Jackson was never awful for Mike Smith; it’s a virtual guarantee that some team will quickly snatch him up.
