Farmington defeated Rochester Adams for the first time in a football game Friday and gained major early-season momentum.

Senior receiver Jason Wilson scored all three touchdowns as the Falcons claimed a 21-16 triumph over the host Highlanders.

Farmington is 2-0 and 1-0 in the OAA White Division; Adams, a perennial power in the league and state, is 1-1 and 0-1.

“I told our kids this may be as big a win as we’ve had here at Farmington,” coach John Bechtel said. “I think it’s a big, big win!

“It’s huge but the interesting part is, if you look at our schedule, every game is going to be a game like this. I don’t know who the best teams are, and that might change from week to week.

“They were the No. 8-rated team in the state going into the game, not that that means anything. Who are the best teams? I don’t know; it’s too early to tell.”

Adams took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter following a 1-yard run by Andrew Hammett at the end of its opening drive. NFL jerseys

Wilson returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, and Zach Schulz knotted the score with his PAT kick.

Cameron Casey kicked a 26-yard field goal for the Highlanders, but the Falcons rallied again to take a 21-10 halftime lead.

Matt Craven threw TD passes covering 18 and 15 yards to Wilson and Schulz added two more extra points.

“In the second half, we pretty much dominated,” Bechtel said. “We moved the ball up and down field, and they were having a tough time doing anything.”

Adams made it a five-point finale when Hammett passed 10 yards to Edward Williams with 40 seconds left in the game. The Falcons recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.

Craven completed eight of 21 passes for 79 yards; Wilson had six catches for 58. Farmington rushed for 105 yards, with Neno Jones-Fletcher and Dae’von Scarber gaining 32 and 34, respectively.

Adams had 196 yards rushing on 38 attempts, and Hammett was 11-of-27 for 109 yards in the air.

“They outgained us but we won the turnover battle and we smacked them pretty good,” Bechtel said. “Special teams certainly were a huge part of this.”

“It’s not necessarily a shot-in-the-arm for us,” Bechtel said of the win, “but we’ve played two and won two. Now we need to get ready to play Oxford. We can play better. We have to play better and, hopefully, we will.

“Adams in the past has been a team that demoralizes you, because they shred you and play great offensive football. It was scary going into the game. But, besides the opening drive, they really struggled moving the ball.

“We had some big sacks. We were quicker than them and — you know what? — we were probably more physical than them, too.”
