chris30277
A tough mistake to admit. After trading a 2010 first-round pick to select Smith 37th overall in the 2009 draft, the Broncos are seeking just a fifth-rounder in return. They probably won't get it. Players exchanged for fifth-rounders of late include Santonio Holmes, Josh Wilson, Ted Ginn, Tony Scheffler, and Josh Wilson. All are impact players. Smith is not.RotoworldHe would certainly help us out matching up against the Saints. He is an upgrade over Chevis (who I don't think makes the team), and he is younger and not coming off a serious knee injury like Brian Williams.idk though because his contract for a 2nd round pick might be too much for what we want to use him for. kschreck
For once I can finally say that I feel like we are set at CB. Icing on the cake is that it looks like we have a possible gem in Franks to develop for the future.

sporkdevil
He's being outperformed by a 7th rounder and some other new scrub (I think an UDFA). They are shopping him because he is their worst corner. He's Denver's Chevis.I would assume he has potential, but even if we grab him, where would he play? Just not worth it. If we make a move now, it should be for someone who has the chance to play.

1989Fan
and DEN gave a first to move up and get him just 2 years ago.Man, I love our FO. we have four good CBs already, and a promising rookie. No need for Smith.
chris30277
I too think we are solid at CB now, I was just pointing out that it would be an intriguing option. We all know Chevis won’t make the team, and we really haven't seen Williams tested yet in the preseason. Smith is young, and he has a ton of potential. He would make a great future NB for us. Grimes is a RFA next year, and with our depth solidified we might be able to sign and move him next offseason. Who knows maybe we could get something greater by moving Grimes in next year’s draft. g-dawg
no way would i give up a draft pick for someone else's leftovers.....when a player is on verge of being cut - there is typically a good reason - because he's not playing well!!!!!Sure, if Broncos cut Alphonso Smith, then I'm all for bringin' him in for a "look-see" but not trading draft picks - not when TD finds gems in the back half of the NFL draft. lokifalcon55
Any attemp to replace Chevis would be good. Chevis is the weak link on what could be a vastly improved secondary. I always pull for guys like Chevis to step up their game and make the roster but I would have to cut him.
