So, you don't have Nance even making the PS?

PA and I may be the only ones, besides the coaches, taking the "entire body of work" approach on Smith. And we only have what we've seen in the games, and maybe some TC fan film. I don't dislike Nance, he would be a good choice as well for some situations. Just think everyone is down on Smith now for that fumble last night. It's part of learning the game. He's got some nice burst and shiftiness to his game.

Can anybody find/post their stats and playing time in the preseason games? I'm curious about how they match up.

You have to keep Palmer over Zinger and Nance over Smith.

Other than that I am certain there will be some shockers and at least 1 player signed from another team's cut.

I predict several days of "I can't believe they cut (Fill in the blank)" threads.

That is all we can do until the real deal.

With me, the Smith fumble doesn't even come into play, because that was just one of those hits that is going to dislodge the ball. I liked that particular run though. I actually like both guys, but I'm not sure both of them make the PS. I feel like Nance has shown more of the big play ability, but both would be great developmental RBs.

I honestly don't see what the fascination is with Nance. He had 2 short yardage TDs but otherwise he really hasn't been good. Playing against 2nd/3rd stringers and "out of the NFL by this weekend" guys he carried the ball 18 times for 51 yards. That is a lousy 2.8 yards a carry.

Against the same competition Antone Smith carried 29 times for 129 yards which is almost 4.5 yards a carry.

Palmer vs Zinger I debated about. There are reasons for both to make the squad, especially with the risk of Palmer being plucked off the practice squad the way Middleton was the other year. The reason I picked Zinger was for his blocking. The last TE on the roster likely isn't going out for may passes so I believe blocking is more important at that spot of depth.

Good enough and it depends on your source

NFL.com

Smith 32 carries, 124 yds, 3.9 avg, long 11,0 TDs

Nance 21 carries, 51 yds, 2.4 avg, long 9, 2 TDs

also I did not check receiving or punt/kick returns

BACK to the original post

I just do not think they will plus up the O-line by 2 players (11) when they have only carried (9) over the last 2 years.

It also debatable weather or not they will plus up the D-line from (9) to (10)

NFL.com has two different sets of stats for Smith. If you go to his player page (http://www.nfl.com/players/profile?id=00-0026855) it says he only carried 8 times in the Chiefs game but if you go to the game box score it says he carried 12. Therein lies the difference between the stats you grabbed and the ones I did.

I see your point about the lines. I wonder if we don't try to trade Chauncy Davis and stash Valdez on the PS. I honestly think if we put Valdez on the PS someone is going to steal him from us.

Of course Valdez play may have made Romberg expendable.

Smith has fumbled and dropped 3 or 4 passes that were

right in his skillets. Last night in the end zone he

lost the ball on the return and if Strickland hadn't

come over and picked it up Smith might still be looking

for it. That said he is zippy and darty and I think they

like him.

With all the catches and playing time he got in the 4th PS game, I think he's gotta make the team. Zinger has done NOTHING to earn him the 3rd TE spot.

And I guess the only debate you can make for the Zinger/Palmer debate is that Zinger is the better blocker. But whatever, we can bring in an extra lineman if we need to block.

I also believe that Palmer has shown some really good hands and may be even better than Peelle when it comes to receiving.

Palmer>>>Zinger.
