Stepdaddy
So I am new to the boards but have been lurking for a long time. The recent overwhelming negativity about the offense sparked my brain a little bit. The negative nancies have pointed to the passing game as our "achilles" but what team in the NFL has a great running game and a great passing game? The colts? no. Saints?.no. Patriots?no.Green Bay.no? San Diego?no.Jets?**** no.Titans?no.Eagles?no. The only teams that to me really have a good balance are teams that are very comparable to the Falcons. The cowboys and the Ravens. Both of which have "struggled" offensively this preseason. The difference last year between us and these two teams was injury and defense. I truly believe that if the defense continues to progress as it seems it is, and we stay decently healthy we will be at these teams level. Then you have to decide who you think has the better playersRyan, Flacco or Romo? Toss up to me, I see them all as about equal.Roddy, Austin, or Boldin? Give me Roddy all day.Tony, Witten or Heap? Tony for me.Turner, Rice or the three headed monster? Rice by a hair for his duel threat purposes. Dallas, ATL, or Bal secondary? Hmmmm...have to go Dallas right now but the falcons may be better and are clearly better than Baltimore's. O-Line? Baltimore but its close all the way around and Dallas lost flozell. LB's i will take ours but it is hard to compare 4-3 vs 3-4 and dallas has ware and baltimore still has ray ray so its tough. Special Teams is where we are seriously lacking because of the kicker situation but neither of them are trotting out a HOF kicker either. So to wrap up this long winded freaking post if you think that Baltimore or Dallas are an "elite" team you have to acknowledge that we are right there with them even with our "noodle arm" led "sub par" offense. So take you your panties and gently remove the large wad that has gathered and view our team as a logical fan, and support them instead of trolling and trying to take a dump onthe team you are a so called "fan" of./rant Edited August 31, 2010 by Stepdaddy

Geneaut
Naught wrong with people expressing their legitimate concern with the offense.I'm looking forward to our game with Baltimore. They have been a benchmark team in my opinion since we both drafted our talented young QBs in the same draft, and we both have talented GMs.
sporkdevil
Saints had a good run game last year.Packers run game was decent.Vikings had great pass and rush offense, and were 6 fumbles away from going to the superbowl.

Stepdaddy
my point is everyone seems to unanimously declare the cowboys and ravens as "contenders" but we really do compare favorably to these teams imo

sporkdevil
I'll take Witten and Romo, thank you.You mean Pick-6 Witten who had 2 TD's last year? Pass. Their offense has the potential to be better than ours, but is so inconsistent they can put up 0-60 points.

He did have only two TD's last year, but I believe he has been consistent enough to over look that. And the fact he is one of the best blocking TE's ever can cut down on his tD's a little. I think most teams can put up 0-60 points as far as that goes. N O , Indy and the Pats are about the only ones you're not as likely see a zero from. ATL and Dallas were side by side in points last year, ATL scored, I think two more. both middle of the pack in scoring. But neither need be ashamed of 22 points a game. Stepdaddy
Saints were 6th in rushing and 4th in passing. 1st in scoring.their rbs are average at best, they blew people out with the passing game and then salted the games away with the run, they were only that high due to brees not the line or rbs

I was thinking more along the lines of putting up 6 against the Iggles on the last game in your stadium, losing to the Rams, splitting with the 08 Skins, or losing to the friggin Chargers AND twice to the Gints last year. You totally missed that one bro. The Aints came out last year and said we are gonna run the ball, spread the passes around and turn it over on defense. It worked. We should try to do the same.Anyway I think you have the right idea. Our offense has enough weapons to do some damage. The questions are will Mularkey use them properly and will they execute. Those are the things the other offenses you named did to help their team bring a Lombardi home.Pretty good first post though. Welcome aboard. Get ready to get your as handed to you regularly. Don't get so bowed up, man. I know what consistent means. And Dallas played Baltimore in the last game at Texas stadium. Not the Eagles.and they put up 24 in that game, which was actually +2 of their average in 2008.. unless you were talking the last game last year against the Eagles, in which Dallas put up 24 points and 34 points in B2B games against the Eagles, both OVER their average. and you may want to know the Chargers were 13-4 last year, so they were not exactly the " frigging Chargers". As far as the Skins split, that is exactly consistent with that rivalry. Tho Dallas at one point won 15 or so in a row, those games are impossible to predict. And since you were talking originally about SCORING consistency. pretty stupid to use the Giants games, since Dallas went OVER their average in both those losses, not under which you would need to make a point. So Dallas lost to the Rams in 2008 with Brad Johnson at QB? meh, #### happens. since my original comment was about keeping Romo, that game has nothing to do with my original statement. My bad. They put up 6 points, and had they won, they would have gone to the playoffs. I didn't doubt their talent, it was still consistency. Dallas could (and well, still can) beat or lose to just about any team any day of the week. And yah, like I said, the 08 Rams, who won... 2 games all year. They are the team that can beat the Iggles 41-37 early in the season, but once the playoffs are on the line blow it 44-6.Or Romo can throw 5 (I think 5, maybe more) picks against the Bills. I like Witten, but he had issues all last year in the red zone.

(kidding, of course)As pointed out already though, the Saints were 4th in passing yardage and 6th in rushing yardage last year, which led to the #1 overall offense in the league. Now is we're talking about preseason this year, then you're even more inaccurate. So far this preseason (and take this with a grain of salt, I guess, as it's just preseason) the Saints have had the #1 passing attack and the #4 rushing attack, which once again puts them at #1 overall where the O is concerned. I like Witten, but he had issues all last year in the red zone.Romo threw 5 picks, but obviously never lost his confidence because he kept throwing and led them down for the game winning drive. I realize the Rams sucked, but with Brad Johnson at the helm, obviously so did Dallas. Brad was a solid QB in his time, but by then he couldn't throw the ball 10 yards it didn't seem. But something we CAN agree on here, even with Brad Johnson playing, Dallas could beat Tampa Bay the next week.

Teehee you guys are missing my point with the saints rbs, i understand they had gaudy stats last yr but if you put them on another team they dont do nearly that. The N.O offense is built around the verticle passing game and brees' passing execution, without brees that offense falls apart and that running game would be worthless, they are given so much space because everyone has to play on their heels. Those Rbs individually are 2nd stringers on most nfl teams
