Atlfanstckndenver
http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-falcons/youth-movement-on-line-597910.htmlThe five-year veteran guard was traded to New England for an undisclosed draft pick in a deal announced on Monday by the team.In the 2010 draft, Johnson was drafted in the third round from Alabama and Hawley was selected in the fourth round from UNLV."Both of those guys are everything we thought they were going to be," Smith said.Ojinnaka, 6 feet 5 and 299 pounds, started five games at right guard last season. He was drafted out of Syracuse in the fifth round of the 2006 draft. He played in 39 games and made 12 starts for the Falcons. The Falcons have tried to develop depth in their offensive line over the last two offseasons. They added veteran free agents center/guard Brett Romberg and tackle Will Svitek in 2009. They also drafted guard/tackle Garrett Reynolds in the fifth round of the 2009 draft. In addition, guard Jose Valdez, an undrafted rookie free agent from Arkansas, was on the practice squad last season and is making a strong bid for a roster spot. With the trade of Ojinnaka and the placing of wide receiver Kerry Meier (knee) on injured reserve, the Falcons currently have 78 players on their roster. They must cut down to 75 players by Aug. 31.
Statick
Okay, anyone have an idea of when we actually find out what round draft pick we got for him?
Izo#2883
I must admit that I havent been too keen on the Oji trade. He was a 5 year veteran but only 26 years old. For a 5 year vet, thats simply amazing and I dont think he has reached his potential. But our coaching staff thinks otherwise and I will ofc go with that.NE got a good deal on Oji though. I haven't found that information yet.Me neither. Most reports state its a 5th or 6th rounder and thats what Im going with. Imo thats a great deal for a 26 year old, 5 NFL season veteran. sporkdevil
and a guy who has been cross trained to play every position on the Oline. He's just not particularly good at any of the positions.I still can't find anything about compensation. TallDrink26
could be a deal like we help you out then later you help us out like us trading L robinson for low pick then st louis trading tye hill to us for low draft pick. Not that he was much help but you see where Im going. Expect Sam Aiken to traded to us next week

King ED
They got Randy Moss for a fourth so it will not be much morethan a 7th I don't imagine.I don't think you can compare the rape the Patriots put on Oakland with that trade with any other trade in the NFL these past few years. If we do better than a 7th I'd be impressed.

If we do better than a 7th I'd be impressed.I honestly didnt think that Randy Moss would be worth less than a second rd pick, I was very very surprised when that deal went through.Tbh Im not sure how it works but I would have preferred to see him continue his development with us instead of possibly turning into a gem at NE. I dont think we can get the value he represents in the 7th round (should a 7th be the case).
Karst41
Okay, anyone have an idea of when we actually find out what round draft pick we got for him? This type of trade is usually based on how many plays or starts that OJ gets as a Patriot. If he stays on the sidelines or is used as occasional rotation or ST'sThe value is going to be low.If the guy winds up in their starting line up by mid season the the value escalates.Best case we get a 4th worst case a 7th.If their is a differing opinion, please enlighten me.Cheers

rowdyfalcon
Quit cryin ladies. Even if it's a 7th round pick we got a good deal and it's good news. It means that Johnson and Hawley are locks to make the roster. That being the case Oji was going to be cut. The fact that we got anything for him is a major positive. It's also good news that Johnson and Hawley are better fits for the team than Oji. That means we have officially *upgraded* the O-line in the offseason. You should be happy. I'm happy that:1. We got anything for a player that was going to be cut anyway. Not many GMs are able to pull that off. 2. Johnson and Hawley are living up to expectations.Thank you. You are right on. There simply was not going to be any room for Oji if jhonson and hawley were lookin good. TD getting us anything for him is amazing. Suprised so many people don't see this. Heck even Garza looks good in Chicago sometimes, but that doesnt bother me. Im sure this wont either.
alphaville
They were both still eligble for the PS.Lost a 5th rounder from the PS last year. No way they put a 3rd or 4th rounder on there a year later.I don't even think they'll risk Schillinger on there this year. He'll probably have to back fill for Meier as a gunner on special teams.
