Weems

I think some of us fans are downplaying Weems role on this team. He's not really here to catch passes unless someone gets hurt or we go to a rare 4/5 wide set. His main role on this team is ST. So far thru the first two preseason games he (Weems) has been the only one returning kicks. As far as punt returns Weems has returned in the first half and Franks in the second half.

Weems has 2 punt returns for 9 yards (1 fair catch).

Franks has 2 punt returns for -7 yards (1 fair catch).

Weems has 3 kick returns for 59 yards. That's an average of about 20 yards, but it's skewed because one of those returns was a squib kick for -1 yards. His other 2 runs were 31 and 28.

All this according to NFL.com

These are great returns and give us great field position. If he hasn't been replaced by now, then he isn't going to be replaced in the next 2 preseason games.

It's almost a given he will be on the 53 man roster. Thoughts? Anybody seeing something different?

There was no doubt in my mind that he would make the 53 man roster even before Meier when down. And I won't short change him so quickly on offense either

He'll definitely make the 53.

I'm kinda surprised we didnt use Weems more often last year in our passing attack.

With Douglas sidelined we all thought it was Weems' time to step up.

He impressed me the few times he touched the ball.

Instead of plugging him into the gameplan in Douglas' role, the coaching staff decided

to use him almost strictly as a returner and basically wiped Harrys role out of the offensive playbook?

Still baffles me to this day....

I don't think he does anything that can't be done we like franks cuz of his ability however, he hasn't acted as if he wanted the job! Brandon harvey also has the ability but he hasn't been put back there! As a wideout he only got a chance cuz of harry going down! I hate eric weems! He is always fumbling with his flippin mouthpiece

I just laugh how a lot of people were like OMG we need to give Weems a chance at WR all last year and then they do a complete 180 on him. Jekyll and Hyde. Weems is not an option to be a good WR on this team. His route running is very poor but he'll still make the team for Special Teams purposes.

Maybe some saw his skills at Wr and didn't like them, but they noticed his skills as our ST ace. He was never involved with ST extensively until last year as well as wr.

So what exactly is wrong with wanting to see him in a certain role and liking or not liking what you see?

Smitty himself said that Weems was one of our best ST players. ***Newsflash*** Not all the wr's on the team are used for purposes of being a good Wr. You think they kept Dante Hall on the chiefs because he was a good wr? You think they kept Desmond Howard on the Packers because he was good wr. Your 4th and 5th wr's HAVE to be good in ST period. Ask any coach and they will tell you that.

Ahhh. One of my favorite Falcons to talk about. Unnoticed, under appreciated and unrecognized by many a Falcon message boarder.

Dude is a special teams beast. Hellafied on kick and punt coverage. Top ten in kick and punt returns. Not many players can return punts and kicks. Not both.

Decent WR. Thrown to six times last year. Caught all six. Two for TDs.

Coaches started him at WR against NE last Thursday.

I predicted Weems in the Top 5 WRs months ago. I have no reason to back off that prediction at this point. Any questions?

Ok everyone is talking about st value so let's look at that aspect of his game! Folks how many return TDs???? Yards mean well I get that but anybody can get yards who can get points?

Show us who can go top 10 in punt and kick return yards. Good luck bro, it hardly ever happens. Trust me. Plus dude kills on the coverage teams and he can catch NFL Football passes.

<_<

Only a handful in the history of the NFL were prolific at scoring.

Tampa Bay went how many years without a return for TD? Like 30?

And "anybody can get yards" is a ******** statement.

This doesnt concern me at all.

Fact is Weems is the best return guy we've had since Rossum. Weems is dependable, gets the steady yards, and we need that.

I tell you what. Go find me twenty guys that were top 10 in punt and kick returns in the league in the same year. Take your time. Let us know.

Hey buddy, I don't know stats like that I don't know if there are 20 guys who have but what does being top ten do in terms of touchdown production and I'm not talking return tds I'm talking him constantly placing us where we need to be

Weems is the third fastest player on the team.

What is the deal with all of the Weems hate???? What does this man have to do to get some love around here? He scored more touchdowns than Finneran, Norwood, Bookers, Jenkins and Mughelli but yet but yet he doesn't deserve to be included in the offense. His special teams work should not be questioned. What's wrong with you people?

I'll chime in for Weems. But heck what do I know I like Finn. And Jenks.

I definitely had Weems making the 53. Now that Meier is down we keep an extra fat guy or maybe a running back. We are fine at receiver. Folks act like we are gonna run 5 wide. 4 wide is rare. We will have 3 tight ends.

How can you question Eric's body of work on ST?

How can you hate on Weems?

heres a poem...

don't hate

celebrate
