nuccah
First Drive1st & 20 - Good coverage on his man, comes over to make the tackle on Welker.2nd & 14 - Play action to Welker. Weatherspoon & Lofton in position to make the tackle in run coverage.1st & 10 - Welker wide-eyed after getting shot by Owens. Weatherspoon bites on the OL moving to the opposite side.2nd & 10 - Weatherspoon covers screen to the opposite side.3rd & 7 - Blitzes (commentators incorrectly point out Weatherspoon in coverage, it was Abraham)1st & 10 - Incomplete deep to Moss, good zone coverage over the middle2nd & 10 - Sucked in by OL. Taylor for 3 yards3rd & 7 - Faulk up the middle (3 man front, ugh) for the 1st. sheds block from RT1st & 10 - Taylor for 4, Peterson crushed. Taps the carrier at the end of the tackle.2nd & 6 - Opposite side of the play, patty-taps with Crumpler.3rd & 2 - Clashes with RG Neal. Morris for a 1st down.1st & 10 - Peterson gets owned. Pushed back and blocks Weatherspoon from attempting more then a one armed tackle. Touchdown Fred Taylor.Second Drive1st & 10 - 15 yards to Moss. Easily fights off Chevis to get open. Weatherspoon makes the tackle after recovering from attempting to break on the slant on his man.1st & 10 - 4 yard rush. Shuffles down the line to get in on the tackle and stop progression.2nd & 6 - 5 yard rush. Pushed back by Pats C. Fights off to stop progression at the 40 before help arrives.3rd & 1 - 1st down. Forces Taylor back inside.1st & 10 - Beat by Hernandez out of the backfield, Weatherspoon recovers, juked, recovers, makes the tackle. Good athleticism by Weatherspoon none-the-less.1st & 10 - Taylor stuffed for a loss. Weatherspoon fought off his blocker (Hernandez) if the play had progressed further.2nd & 13 - Man on the RB in case he went out in the flats? I'm not sure. Chevis beat by Moss.3rd & 4 - Good coverage by both Spoon and Chevis on B. Tate out of the slot. Would have been a pick if Brady had let it go. Bready aten by Biermann4th - Here is a question for you. Why are the refs in the defensive backfield during a FG?1st & 10 - Biermann stuffs RB for -3. Weatherspoon cut blocked.2nd & 13 - Weatherspoon beats his block. Great read on the play by Weatherspoon but gets blocked by Vance Walker getting pushed back by the Patriots LG. Would've had a great opportunity to make the play.3rd & 3 - Good coverage by Weatherspoon, but late to turn his head. Great play by Brady and Hernandez. There was one obvious thing I could see on many of these plays. Weatherspoon's head is swimming with all the things that he is learning. He is playing like most rookies in their first year that while he may have great athleticism, he is just a step too slow to react to the play. However, while I don't think he is quite ready, Peterson looked bad. Not the good kind of bad either. Just bad. I'll take a starting lineup of Nicholas, Lofton, and Weatherspoon please.
The Falcon Jedi
I agree with pretty much all that. Weatherspoon still has a way to go.
ballfan
Atlanta has not had this kind of athleticism at LB since Cornelius Bennett. I’ve watched him at FB and he can cover backs and TEs. I am excited as can be at the possibilities. I agree about Peterson. He looked slow and he is not good in pass coverage.
Dog River
Spoon will be fine. Good post.
DirtyBirdSupabowl
I'm not worried about him, he just thinks too much and that is expected with a rookie being thrown into the fire early. He will be fine and he will start picking up plays and formations and he will start reacting faster.
BenB321
+1. Great post. Spoon really is a fast LB and once he gets acclimated he will start making plays instead of just beinging in postion to make plays like on the TD pass. I like what I see in Spoon. I don't like what I see however in Chevis Jackson. Dunata, Owens, Grimes, Williams, Franks all are better than Chevis.

He doesn't have the speed or athleticism.

Dominique is Manufique
The point about the refs on the fg is a great one. The umpire should be able to see the backfield on the fg attempt. Who threw the flag does anybody know?
didz
Spoon is the real deal. He looks like a linebacker than can fly around the field. Once he gets his mind around the scheme and knows what he is doing, he will produce big plays.
devilishdoyle
Peterson is way too slow out there and getting beat way to much> Spoon will get the nod as starter and Peterson will be on for short yardage run plays IMO
papachaz
i've enjoyed watching Spoon play! love the speed at LB position, I think he will make us a very good player for years to come. as said above, once he gets to where he recognizes the formations, he'll dominate, JMHO

ThePhoenix
I agree with pretty much all that. Weatherspoon still has a way to go.He's a rook with a tremendous upside, yet the plays I zoned in on him, there were too many where he just ran into the line or pile completely taking himself out of the play. I chalk it up to aggression and I'll never fault a rookie for that.

kibitzer
nice read, but omfg he looked bad on that TD.... hope he learns fast. Totally disagree. He was all over that dude, but just got fooled. Not many QBs are able to put that ball in the sweet spot like Brady did.

You could be right about the first part, but the QBs Atlanta will have to beat in the playoffs to reach the SB will...be able to put that ball in the sweet spot like Brady.
