Rev's thoughts from the Chiefs game

This will be brief. I forgot to Tivo the game, so I missed a lot od atuff.

1. The first string defense looked really good. That hardly looks like a unit with new pieces in the puzzle.

2. I know it is preseason, and the Falons do not want to give too much away, but Mr. Mullarkey - please throw the ball. I don'y pay $69 per seat for 3 seats to watch Ryan hand off the ball!

3. Turner looked quick, and Snelling was solid. Nance was the star RB of the evening. He is a slippery little dude.

4. Biermann is who we thought he was! The pass rush looked really strong. We have 4 solid DE's now, with JA98 floating around as a 5th. I expect the pass rush to be much improved.

5. We still need a kicker.

6. In case you haven't noticed, Niki Noto is an attactive young lady. She is doing Celeste's old spots during the game, and she looked good. I keep telling Jay, Noto=ratings.

7, JPW has really progressed since last year. He did a nice job moving our scrubs against the KC defensive scrubs. He is looking solid.

8. Before the interception, it looked like Chevis Jackson was getting beat on every play. He has not progressed since being drafted, and my be the odd man out on the secondary.

9. Nice surprise - drinks at the Dome now come with unlimited refills. I drank 4 gallons of Diet Coke.

Rev, good write up, for the most part i agree i just want to talk about 2 and 8.

2. I wanted to see us throw the ball more, but i believe smitty came out in his postgame interview and stated there goal for this game was to establish the run, that was it. Since game strategy is different in preseason, i think this was the coaches way to just watch how the o-lin handled run blocking against a 3-4 defense and just work on that in general. Seeing as we have open reports of Ryan being handed the reigns of the offense and audibles etc... i believe we will see a much more active passing game this season.

8. I couln't agree more. I thought Chevis was very close to being the goat of the game, he seemed a step behind in every coverage and completion. He did thought, make two good plays. The interception which was a great read to undercut the route, and a diving pass b/u along the sideline. I would love to see the coaches tape from true birds eye to try and see what happened on the plays where he did allow the catch.

I, unfortunately, was unable to watch the game (had plans with my girlfriend and her family). However, the highlights I've seen and most of the reviews sound good. Glad the defense is looking much improved and really looking forward to catching the game Thursday night.

Couldn't of said it better Rev - you had the same thoughts I did...

Except

10. 2nd string DL was getting ripped. I'm concerned about the quality of depth should we lose 2 starters along the front 4.

It's gonna be on NFLN Tuesday at 10 am - if you have NFLN and want to watch/tape it.

Well the same starting 5 on the O-line and pass protection looked like last year. Matt is going to have to get rid of the ball in a hurry. Baker was getting pushed all over the field. Hopefully it's just the preseason funk.

Wilson looks sharp as a backup, he could develop. D-line looks much improved.

WR :

Roddy White is 70% reputation, 15% talent, 15% mouth. (How's that for a recipe for stardom?)

Yeah, yeah, it's early, it's this, it's that but he has hands that are below mediocre.

End of story.

I'm pleased that only "15% talent" was able to utterly ream a decent #2 corner in Brandon Carr.

Watch the play just before he goes out of the game - he eats up a huge cushion like it was nothing, twists Carr's blood until he slips over then pulls the ball in. I could have made the throw he got so open.

Those two cuts were things of beauty - I hope all our other receivers, along with all but about 3 of the rest of the NFL, were taking notes.

And his hands are not below mediocre - they are mediocre. However he gets open even in double coverage - every game last season except against Revis. He doesn't have Fitzgerald's hands agreed, but if you criticize Roddy (a top 10 in the league talent) you must spend a lot of time bad mouthing our team as every player deserves your opprobrium.

Some may deem me a chicken little but I'm concerned about our offensive line protecting Matt Ryan. Our run blocking is solid but pass blocking as a whole leave little to be desired.

Oh and had this been a real game, Dexter McCluster would've given us fits.

There's a lot of praise for nance, but for me, being honest, didn't play a good game, yes he scored a pair of td in goal line situations, but if you look at his global perfomance, 7 carries for 6 yards, that's not good, i'm not saying that he isnt a good player, but right hasnt show a lot to me.

Totally agree with the chevis comment, he was gettin manhanled by mcluster until we put 56 on him, so i'm with that he could be one of the cuts.

Gather some facts before you post.

Roddy 2009

13th in yards

10th in receptions

Roddy 2008

4th in yards

9th in receptions

Roddy in 2007

16th in receptions

8th in yards

I think most would say that Roddy is a top 10 WR. I would say that's a little better then 15% talent. And by the way, where would one get the reputation of being a good WR if they hadn't ever been a good WR?

This is why every good thing that has been said about Nance included "His stats don't show much to a stat keeper, but he made an impact on the game"

This is one of those situations where you cannot just go with the stats of 7 carries for 6 yards....

  • He had over 25yds receiving
  • had a 50yd TD called back on a holding penalty
  • converted a 4th and 1 by jumping clear over oline and dline
  • would have had more yards on the two TDs but the endzone stopped him
  • showed great shake and ability to accelerate to the hole
  • showed good ability in pass protection

You've got some serious football wit about yourself man. We should talk more often!
