Falcon Defense Picks Up Where It Left Off

Recommended Posts

Alright let me first say that this is my personal perspective. Not some national writer's that knows little about this team.

OK after watching the game last night and reviewing it again today I have to say this defense has picked up where it left off last year and should be poised to make a move.

As you good folks recall we closed out the last three games with 6.7 points allowed, and a paltry 173 pass yards, 60 rush yards, 14 first downs and 8 TDs. I don't care how many rookie QBs you play that's down right stingy.

These boys are flat out gettin after NFL offenses. I think it's more of them getting Smitty's system down than us playing weak offenses.

They did it a gain last night, albeit in a watered down pre season game with four starters out.

This year they will get a hella boost with a much easier schedule, Dunta on board, several players returning from IR and good depth added in the off season.

I thought the front seven was good last year. This year they should be better and now we have enough players in the secondary to get it done.

I predict the defense will be the unit that will Rise Up this year.

Pop your popcorn folks cause we are getting ready to see something we haven't seen in awhile. Trust me.

Our defense this season is much better than the one we had for the last 3 games of last season. Those last 3 games were against the Bucs, the Bills, and the Jets. If we played those teams from last year right now, I don't think we'd give up 6.7 points in all 3 games combined.

Against another lower tier team though... Lets see how we do against the Pats.

Yeah, I'm looking fwd to this too, although I'll admit I don't know much about their 2nd and 3rd stringers. I mean, we looked good against Brody Croyle, but I don't think much of his skills to begin with. And at least in years past, NE has had a dang fine OL. So if that trend continues.... well, it will just be a better acid test IMO.

I agree this defense COULD BE as good as the 2004 defense and 1998s, I hope better. But I love them finally getting the defense straightened out, nothing pizzes me off more watching a team march down YOUR field un-impeded. Now their going to get a surprise. :)

New England will be the best test of all. ;)

Nice and all, but it is the PRE SEASON. It wouldn't matter if it was the Saints, Colts, Patriots; or the Lions, Cheifs, and Raiders.

Preseason cannot tell you how a team is going to perform in the regular season.

The 3rd pre-season game can give some glimpses. Like when San Diego went up and down the field against the Falcons last year? Saints tore the Raiders a new one 45-7? Both were signs of things to come. ^_^

Come to our side buddy. You're too smart to be a Falcon fan. ^_^

FF1970 you can really see the progress TD is making in rebuilding this team. To me it only highlights what a dismal failure McKay was as GM of this team even Gazoo acknowledges this. McKay's success as GM seems to be more attributable to others like Tim Ruskell who were more expert in evaluating player talent. McKay's failure to personally work out Jamaal Anderson before he drafted him with the eigth pick in the first round is one of the most irresponsible and reckless acts of negligence I have ever heard of by a NFL GM.

If our defense becomes a dominant one Coach Smith will let our offense simply smash the other teams defense into submission. Michael Turner, Harvey Dahl and company will wear the other team out after our defense creates turnovers and 3 and outs. Ryan's interception problems should be a thing of the past as well if we can play this kind of football. I'm especially looking forward to beating the living crap out of Drew Brees, the Panthers and Tampa Bay. My only regret is that we will not get the opportunity to annihilate Jake Delomme.
