Rapid Report 8/4/10

Recommended Posts

Aug 4 2:44 ET WR Troy Bergeron (swollen calf) is not at practice.

Aug 4 2:44 ET Free-agent WR Brandyn Harvey, an undrafted free agent, is not dressed in pads and not participating in practice.

Aug 4 2:40 ET Rookie WR Kerry Meier continues to adjust well on tough passes, catching most balls near him. With Meier's performance, could this be the beginning of the end for veteran WR Brian Finneran?

Aug 4 2:25 ET WR Harry Douglas is participating in team drills for the first time in training camp.

Aug 4 1:53 ET TE Colin Peek (knee) is not at practice. CB Dunta Robinson (hamstring) and RB Jerious Norwood (hip flexor) are, but not dressed in pads.

Aug 4 3:06 ET DT Jonathan Babineaux, who coach Mike Smith said is only practicing every fourth or fifth day, is participating.

Aug 4 3:04 ET Practices are gradually becoming more intense as tempers continue to flare, as they did Wednesday. LBs Curtis Lofton and Mike Peterson were both involved in a small scrum with FB Ovie Mughelli and some TEs in a blocking drill.

What's up with Babs only practicing every few days?

In the video of coach Smith where he was asked about Babs not practicing, he said he would have every 4th or 5th practice off. Not that he would only practice every 4-5 practices. He said the same goes for Abe and Mclure and other vets.

I think Babs is only practicing every now and then because he is either:

a) being rewarded for leading the team in sacks

b)letting the youngins get quality reps since we know Babs is the #1 DT on the team and we run a rotation so everybody essentially runs with the 1's

c)letting the defense adjust to life without Babs week 1

Or Rapid reports got it wrong like lowgatl posted just before I could.

I've been saying Meier could take Finneran's spot this year. I mean, I like Finn, but we need some youth at the other slot position. Finn's speed has declined and I'm sure it's affecting his route running. His hands are solid, but when you can't get seperation, the ball will only get knocked away.

Also, what the *%&$ is up with Harvey not practicing? Can a UDFA hold out??:rolleyes:<_<
