I guess. But it sure wouldn't be bad to have someone with potential like his at a position we're very thin at.

It sounds like he didn't attend either practice.

Thats shocking. Oh well - another ship to use on what could be an awesome class.

WOW that is shocking. He should have stayed closer to home and come to Carolina. Guess he'll end up somewhere like SC State now, huh? Does anyone know if he attended any practices at all? Was he an early enrollee or did he arrive in June?

That's out-of-the-blue. I wonder what happened?

Nobody really knows right now, but according to Marc Weiszer's blog, Coach Richt is supposed to address the situation after practice today...will be interesting to hear what he has to say since Morant did not attend any of the first 2 practices.

I've heard that it's a case of homesickness and possibly missing a girlfriend. But that is almost purely rumor, I believe. The Gamecocks lost a player several weeks ago in those exact same circumstances.

I think it's a case of being homesick and not having Jon Fabris there to coach him. I wish him the best though.

Can't fault a guy for being homesick. Anyone of us who has left town to attend college can attest to experiencing homesickness...some people just learn to push through it and others can't quite seem to get past those feelings and have to move closer to home. Wish him nothing but the best!

It's not home sickness guys on why he quit. He almost quit after summer workouts and then he just couldn't handle practice. His love for football isn't there and he doesn't want to put forth the effort to be successful.

Good thing he accepted a football scholarship to the University of Georgia then.

yep it does stink for uga because it's one less guy for depth, but he is just giving up football. he didn't want to put forth the effort and didn't have that desire to play football anymore.. i hope him the best in whatever he does.

I don't think practice being too tough is why he quit. His coach says he doesn't want to play anymore -- I can't bash him for not wanting to play football. I don't think laziness has anything to do with why he quit either. so many football players don't love the game and they simply waste the schools time, the coaches time, and their time playing football when they don't want to do it. If Morant doesn't love the game then he made a good decision both for himself and for the school.

He could very well be homesick and unsure of whether he made the correct decision (since his defensive coaches that he pledged to originally are now gone..). But I think we'll get an idea of what's going on from Coach Richt. But right now I just can't stand to see people bash him.

there is a lot involved in giving up football and putting forth the effort is also one thing. a number of kids who quit football don't have the desire to play any longer and part of it is putting forth the effort to be successful. in this situation that is part of it for dexter. he isn't far from home at all and the same thing would have happened imo if he was at south carolina. he wanted to quit after summer workouts and the guys really worked with him and tried to help him get through it and he decided he didn't want to put forth the effort anymore to play football and that desire he had is gone. we will get some stuff from richt, but not a lot on this issue. we will hear from richt who will be nice and say home sick or something like that, but dexter just decided to quit and no longer play football.

so how does this affect us in recruiting? Do we take another LBer? or do we hand out a scholly to a hard-working walkon?

imo it does change our recruiting some. we may take another guy who can play olb especially with justin houston most likely moving on and with no morant that is one less guy for depth.
