atljbo
Valdez impressiveBackup offensive lineman Jose Valdez, who spent last season on the practice squad, is having a strong training camp. He's a 6-foot-6, 324-pounder from Arkansas."He's a guy that is very athletic when he gets out there, and he pulls on our sweeps," offensive line coach Paul Boudreau said. "He's very fluid, and he's got nice feet in space."Ive always really liked this guy... I couldn't believe he went undrafted in 09... I thought he was atleast a 5th rounder.. I was excited when we picked him up because he remind me of Harvey Dahl... The guy plays mean and nasty out there.. He finish his blocks and like the O-Line coach said... He has great feet.... He just needed a couple of years to get stronger and work on some minor things.I honestly think this dude can be a either a starting guard in the NFL or a really good backup... He may spend 1 more year on the PS if they think we can stash him on there this year and know one will try to steal him but i do think he will be here for the future.O-Line depth seem to be a strength for us now. (young none starter)Mike Johnson - 23 years oldJoe Hawley - 21 years oldGarrett Reynolds - 23 years oldJose Valdez - 23 years oldThis is how the good teams just easily substitute a starting O-Lineman when they lose a guy in FA.. bigdogg2277
I love the kids size, also love any O-linemen with a mean streak. That really can set the tone for a game and a season when our O-line dictates that we are going to run the ball down your throat and there is nothing you can do about it. I love the way TD drafts, he knows the value of the players on the board and who might drop further down for us to snag. Just remember the real steal and gem might just be the fact that we got TD. gazoo
Man.....I love watching TD stock the roster with competent depth. In the past, we'd have players all througout the depth chart even after final roster that had no business being here and when we would get an injury then opposing defensive coordinators would just target that position and exploit it.Now, instead of the likes of OT Frank Omiyale known in Chicago as "the nicest guy in the Bears lock room" one snap way from starting, we have players like Garrett Reynolds ready to step up. Dog River
Depth along the LOS on both sides of the ball...love it.
delaigle
The problem is keeping all 4 on the 53 man roster. They usually keep 9 O-linemen5 starters, Baker, Blalock, McClure, Dahl, Claboand only 4 backup, one of them will probably be Svitek at LT so that leaves room for only 3 of these.Man it's hard when you got more good backups than you can keep! Valdez can spend another year on the PS (if no other team grabs him)
muskokas finest ©
Lots of depth and talent on the interior of the line. The question is: How do you keep them all? Teams not so similarly blessed will be licking their chops on cut down day.
falconidae
...This is how the good teams just easily substitute a starting O-Lineman when they lose a guy in FA..This is how good teams do that for all of their roster- falcons have young quality depth everywhere. Sidbury, Atkins, Walker, Franks, Meier, Walker, the young ones you mentioned for the Oline; then there's DeCoud, HD and Bierman- TD has really hit big in the late rounds/FA. Sure, not all of them will work out, but enough of them will.

Not too much IMO since all of them are good depth players. Ojinnaka may be the odd man out. I just think if Valdez is truly doing that well it would be too much of a risk trying to see if he clears waivers to sign him to the PS
OilFuturesTrader19
Ya, I had this guy in my mock draft. I was hoping we were gonna draft him. Can't believe we got him as a UDFA.

mrobinson3803
I do not know a lot of info on Svitek is there a possibility he is cut along with Ojinnaka. Reynolds can hold down the tackle spots. Hawley Valdez and Johnson will hold up the interior line. I could possible see us bringin 10 OLine in because we had some injury problems at last year

hawkeye
"He's a guy that is very athletic when he gets out there, and he pulls on our sweeps,"Arkansas is known for their O-Line and all of them are good at pulling and getting outside. Although I think one of the young Oline goes to practice squad.I'd agree with moving Peek/Palmer to the PS. I don't think we'd need 4 TEs, at least not at the start of the season. Now if some gets injured (knock on wood)...

Also one of TEs will be gone (Zinger) and most likely a cut between Johnson, Davis or Walker (PS). Wire is also on the borderline who may be replaced by Woods anyway. mrobinson3803
Yea I doubt we bring in 4 TE's thats overkill. He seems to be way more value than a 4th TE on the roster.

papachaz
Peek may not even be in the mix, being injured. that said, palmer would probably go to PS, I'd love to see valdez make the final 53, you can't keep too much good quality back up personnell on either side of the LOS
Curveball
Valdez is running with the 2's at Right Tackle and the 3's at Left Tackle. Looks like he is in great shape. Hope he does well.

Geez. No, we can't. Such is the very nature of the fan. We hope, we dream, we furiously strategize on which plays should be run against what teams, despite the fact that we will never make any coaching decisions. Having it get under your skin just makes you grumpy while doing absolutely nothing to change the behaviour.
