Dawgy
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Volunteers coach Derek Dooley has reinstated two Volunteers players he suspended following a July bar brawl that left an off-duty police officer seriously injured.Sophomore linebacker Greg King and sophomore defensive tackle Marlon Walls will join their teammates when they begin fall practice Wednesday. The pair has been suspended since the July 9 brawl, though their roles in the incident have never been made clear by police.Dooley said Tuesday he's comfortable with the punishment Walls and King have served and said the pair have had good attitudes and shown remorse about the incident, which also led to defensive back Darren Myles' dismissal.Dooley says he doesn't expect to punish anyone else unless police uncover new information in their investigation. Fire Dawg
Congratulations Coach! You have taught them NOTHING! Hope it continues on the field.
Mr Pickle1
Dooley is swiftly becoming the biggest joke in the SEC. Without a doubt, he is not at all the person I thought he was. Combined with his putrid recruiting, and judging by the record at L. Monroe, equally putrid coaching and development of players, he will swiftly be on the way out. I really hope UT can finally get a quality coach and person with the next guy they hire.

I love this quote.."There has been enough incidents to know that we can't just stick our head in the sand and say, 'Oh, we're really OK. Just one or two guys did this,'" Dooley said. "I don't ever stick my head in the sand, and we take responsibility for it and we're going to continue to change it."no coach you can stick your head in the sand.. one guy who was a multiple violator was kicked off the team so he is the fall guy. boy they sure did learn their lesson. stumpjumper
What the **** is he doing? What did they learn? They took the summer off, wow...
Volunteer Falcon
No use in further punishing players who were not charged with anything. There were so many different reports from people during the entire process that no one is ever going to know what happened. I don't expect hardly anyone on this board to believe the Tennessee players because this is basically a UGA board but luckily some posters on here actually look at multiple sides of a story. SacFalcFan
What the **** is he doing? What did they learn? They took the summer off, wow...yep they got the summer off.. lol he is fulmer 2 in discipline. when vol fans say "we support dooley in whatever he does" which has been said on this board a number of times then they have zero to say about this since their posts will have one view and one view only. dooley screwed up as he has done in recruiting 2 and 3 star conference usa players. Carter
Well to be fair (and perhaps play devil's advocate for a minute), none of us know if they learned their lesson. Dooley reinstated them because he felt that they have through observing their attitudes and actions following the incident. The police aren't exactly knocking the doors down trying to put these guys in jail, so I'm not sure why so many people take it as a joke that Dooley reinstated them.On the other hand, this was a very serious incident and these players were both suspended after preliminary investigations into the matter. On the grounds that they were involved to an extent requiring suspension, reinstating them now amounts to little more than a slap on the wrist and a wag of the finger. stumpjumper
I still think I'd suspend them 1 game at least, for getting caught up in this mess, and to not take part in such crazy activities. But, hey, I'm not the coach for a reason, lol.
tjb
I'm willing to give Dooley the benefit of the doubt. I have ZERO first hand knowledge of the story, and have read/heard many different conflicting stories. How much is truth and how much is rumor, I have no idea. So based on that, I'll give him a break... I will say, from an outsider's perspective, he doesn't seem to be getting off on the right foot if he truly wants to change the culture there. By showing the players that for the most part you're going to get a slap on the wrist or it will be "handled internally", these kids will continue to push the boundaries. If he really wants to change the culture, adopt a zero tolerance policy for a while and boot players. That will get the message across that you need to shape up or ship out. First impressions go a loonngg way. Hard to be taken seriously if you start out as a push over. IMO, always good to set a precedent from the beginning. But then again, I'm not a UT fan, so he doesn't have to appease me.

falcon_91
Yeah i figured Meline would move - Myles being kicked of and Lofton is late in getting admitted have obviously moved the process along - but didn't think Teague would move with experience, but the top notch WR class we still has means its a move we can afford to make
