10:17 am Not receiving many reps in 7-on-7s were backup QBs Chris Redman and John Parker Wilson. Redman completed 2 of 4 passes and Wilson completed 1 of 4.

10:12 am QB Matt Ryan looked sharp in 7-on-7s, completing 8 of 10 passes. His two incompletions involved CB Dunta Robinson getting his hands on the ball.

10:11 am WR Brian Finneran is showing no ill effects from his knee injury, jumping up on the sideline to snag a tough catch. Two plays later he snagged one in traffic over the middle.

9:37 am CB Brian Williams is participating in practice but did not come on the field for the team's first session of team drills.

9:32 am While DL Jamaal Anderson has been criticized during his tenure in Atlanta, he continues to rotate in and out of DE and DL. While his pass rush skills are limited, the coaching staff seems to like what he can do in run situations.

9:24 am On the Falcons' first team drill, CB Brent Grimes, who is competing for a starting spot, lined up at left CB, opposite of Dunta Robinson at right CB.

9:15 am DT Peria Jerry is practicing with the team for the first time since Week 2 of 2009. So far so good, as he's moving at full speed.

Grimes needs to be on the rite where he is more comfortable. we all saw the difference he made from left to rite.

good gracious. he got off the plane, stepped in the office, signed his contract. it's been 5 minutes...

It is a reason they worked so hard to agree to terms yesterday: SO HE COULD PRACTICE TODAY!

Calm down trying to be robocop kid. I know it is the first practice but Spoon has a chance to be just as great as Ryan.

11:03 AM DT Peria Jerry (knee), CB Brian Williams (ACL) and WR Harry Douglas (ACL) will not participate in today's afternoon practice and will be on a one-a-day schedule for a while, said coach Mike Smith.

Just gives us more time to check out Meier, Peters, and Jackson/Franks.

Sounds like a good plan to me, I would keep it that way the whole camp. Bring all three back sloooooow.

If he can't play on the left, he won't be a starter. Unless he is happy being nickel, he has to get comfortable there.

11:17 am Coach Mike Smith on playbook additions: "We've made a lot of subtle adjustments. And again, in Year 3, the playbook has gotten bigger though the years."

11:16 am Coach Mike Smith on training camp goals and objectives: "The biggest thing for us is to stay healthy, especially in the first 10 days of training camp. We want to make sure we're doing everything we can for our guys."

Not exactly. With Robinson here, it allows us to let him shadow the opponents best receiver, whether

that be on the left or right side. Grimes (or whomever plays at #2 CB position) would be playing on

both sides of the field at different times. Obviously, Grimes had more success last year on the

left side, but he didnt do too bad on the right either (int of Brees).

This was the advantage in signing Dunta and it allows us to do things defensively we couldnt do the

last two years.

Our 2007' top 10 draft pick has come down to management saying we are pleased with his rush defense ..lol

It wasnt TD pick and Smith seems ready to move on at DE ...cut Jammal Anderson and move on

DT-Jerr,Babs, Peters

NT Johnson.Walker, Lewis

thats enough

Jamaal is making very little money and still decent against the run. Nothing exceptional, but still decent. They didn't draft him, so they have no attachment to him and he has had his 3 years, so they aren't waiting on him to develop eiher. They are using him for what they know he can do at this point. Your reasoning for cutting him is asinine.

Your reason for cutting him (him not being a TD pick) should show you that he has some kind of value since he is still here. Houston was cut after his 2 years with the current regime. Are you telling me Houston was worse than JA98? Well he is still here isn't he, and TD/Smitty have one simple excuse: "We didn't draft him so let's just cut him". He is still here for year 3 and they have plans to use him to his strengths.

In this case, you cant single out JA98.

We were pleased with our rush defense all across the board.

Our pass rush was pitiful (after the first two games) from everyone on the D-line, not just Anderson.

11:29 Fans in attendance this morning brought wooden spoons in support of rookie LB Sean Weatherspoon. "Being in college it was like that after my first couple of years, the spoons came out," he said. "I'm excited the fans are excited about me being here."

11:23 am Coach Mike Smith on how DT Peria Jerry, WR Harry Douglas and CB Brian Williams looked: "Our plan is to not only manage Peria, but to manage Harry Douglas and Brian Williams and I thought all three of those guys moved around very well."

11:21 am LB Sean Weatherspoon on football becoming a job for him: "I definitely saw the business aspect over the past couple of days and I understand that a little bit more. You have to go out there and earn it."

Glad Im not the only one who thinks he is on bubble

Falcons DL Jamaal Anderson could be on the roster bubble this summer.

The 2007 first-rounder has just 2.5 sacks in 44 career games as a defensive end, so the Falcons are trying him out in a swing tackle/end role this year. His roster spot could hinge on the healthy return of DT Peria Jerry, who has struggled to return from an ACL tear.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would take Vance Walker & Trey Lewis/TJ anyday of Jammal Anderson

Those 3 players are fighting for careers and pay checks..Give me the hungry player who has something to prove to a top 10 bust that has been paid huge ..

Jammal Anderson is not going to make any difference in our run game or our pass rush..so while he is decent against the run

he is not worth keeping
