Sean Weatherspoon!

ESPN Insider:

It's still a little unclear as to what exact position Atlanta Falcons first-round pick Sean Weatherspoon will play, and when he'll reach an agreement on his rookie contract.

But if he does get his contract situation squared away, and does play a big role for the team in 2010, ESPN Insider Chad Millman thinks that he's actually a great play for those who are, ahem, predicting which player will win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Rolando McClain is almost a lock to get it on that piss poor Raiders defense. Who else is going to be making the tackles? Everyone knows you need a lot of those to get DROTY. With Curtis Lofton sniffing out the ball carrier most of the time, I doubt Weatherspoon has a massive amount of tackles. It would be crazy if he could get a ton of game changing plays like interceptions, sacks, and FF though. That could put him into contention.

Spoon has to start to have a shot. If he only comes in on 3rd down then it will be a long shot. I hope the kid shows up and takes a position but it will not be easy considering we have 2 vets that know the system very well.

He is a first round pick so we expect him to start sooner rather than later, but Mike isn't going to lay down and Stephen is good enough to hold on.

If he comes in on 3rd down and plays all the nickel downs he will have to leave a heck of an impression. He will need to leave destruction all over the field.

We will have some of the best depth at linebacker of any team in the league no matter who wins the jobs.

It seems fairly obvious that he will be the WLB.

TD and MS has said he's a weak LB, Peterson is an old vet on the last year of his contract, and he got worse and worse as things went down hill.

Either people are grossly underestimating Stephen Nicholas and his play, grossly over rating Mike Peterson, or just don't have a clue about what is going on here.
