Hello from a Saints fan

Recommended Posts

Greetings to everyone in Atlanta Falcons country...my name is Chris and I am a native born and current resident of South Louisiana. I have been a Saints fan for some time now and have thoroughly enjoyed the rivalry between my team and yours over the years. This is my first post here and it is primarily designed to attempt to introduce a bit of reasonableness and rationality into the base of Saints fans who post here.

Since the Falcons have been the Saints biggest rivalry (and vice versa) over the years, I have spent some time following your team as well. In many respects, our respective franchises have been virtual mirror images of each other over the years...for the most part, our successes have been few and far between, and there have been a number of seasons (and this may contribute in large part to the ongoing rivalry as well as us being in the same division) where the Falcons were the only team the Saints could beat, and of course, vice versa.

We have each had sporadic playoff appearances, and one trip each to the Super Bowl. We were fortunate to win in our appearance, and were it not for the fact that you guys happened to have the misfortune of going up against John Elway and the Denver Broncos (a team that no one was going to win against that year) you all might have been in possession of a Super Bowl ring yourselves. I still remember watching the NFC Championship game from that season when the Falcons defeated the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings and thought that the supreme effort the team expended in winning that game may have taken something out of the team, which in combination with playing against Elway made it very diffcult for you to have a legitimate chance in that game.

Regarding our current teams for 2010, once again it appears that we are very evenly matched, except now, we match up with good to excellent teams instead of mediocre ones. Our head to head matchups last season were both hard fought down to the wire games that could have gone either way at the end. I am seeing a probable split between us this year, with each of our teams winning the game at our respective home stadiums, and with both of us making the 2010 playoffs. It should be fun to watch!

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that not all Saints fans are the way many have been on this board...some of us can actually have a reasonable football discussion with fans of opposing teams. Hope everyone here is enjoying their weekend.

Good post for an Aint.

Your Aint buddies probably won't like it though. It's like treason to post positive on a division rival's board. This post reminds me of JetPac, a Falcon fan, posting something similar on a Pantie board. He got reamed. He hasn't posted here since and is rumored to be in an insane asylum. Good luck bro. Hopefully they will go easy on you.

I agree with pretty much everything in the post, except the being tired after the 1998 NFCCG. I our defensive leader went looking for love and our QB threw three picks. That's what happened.

Thanks FalconFan I appreciate that...like anyone else, I'm happy when my team wins and disappointed when they lose, but I don't really engage in smack talking and I don't believe in trashing the opposition...I guess if any of the Saints brethren reams me for it, I'll just have to deal with it LOL

I tend to believe that you are on the wrong message board if you don't believe in trash-talking. Frankly, I was just going to tell you to "go to h3ll", but you seem too polite for that. Either way, most people on here are going to rip you apart. We've heard enough about your trophy and frankly, I'm tired of it. So in the interest of peace, Welcome...

now goodbye...

buzz off and go celebrate while you still can

Hey, show some respect. The guy is trying to be civil...Is it really that hard to actually talk football with the non-idiot Aints fan?

Welcome to the board Chris..i have to say that u are a pretty down to earth aints fan and that you are very much in the minority..

Good luck. A lot of the people on this board can't have reasonable football discussions with fans of the same team. But welcome anyway, you seem like a good guy.

Thanks guys I appreciate the welcome...I know that there are good/bad fans in every fan base, and more than likely many of the Saints fans who come here do so just to stir the pot...just as you will no doubt find on any other team's message board when it comes to their chief rivals...but in general I have found that people are people no matter which professional sports team they root for...good and bad (but mostly good) with hopefully just a minority of bad apples, as I have no doubt the case is here.

I don't believe in trashing the opposition...

SON .... YOU GOT A BAD THEOLOGY. THE OPPOSITION IS THERE TO BE TRASHED.

YOU JUST GOT TO KNOW WHEN TO PULL THE TRIGGER. YOU MADE A SENSIBLE THREAD.

NOT MANY SAINTS CAN DO THAT. SO FOR THIS ALONE, YOU GET A PASS THIS TIME.

BUT THE NEXT TIME YOU VENTURE INTO ENEMY TERRITORY .....

YOU BETTER BE WEARING YOUR FLAK-JACKET.

^^^ My theory as well. You were polite, so I'll leave you be... For now. Next time, I can't promise anything.

Welcome to the Falcons Forums Chris.

Your observations are on the mark, and while it is natural for all of us

to hate on anything "Aint" a good football discussion is more than welcome.

When the season starts, we have a handful of Topics that start fresh each week.

One of my favorites is the "Game Day Menu". and will be looking forward to you making

some contributions to the topics,,,;)

Cheers

True the Saints should certainly benefit on the defensive side of the ball with another year in the Gregg Williams system no doubt...but the Falcons should also improve by virtue especially of having Matt Ryan, an up and coming superstar, with another year of experience under his belt...and last year's second game between us was close even without Ryan in the game...either way, the games will be close regardless of the outcome...
