Falcons release Shockley early to give him a chance to sign with a team before training camps start.

I am guessing Dallas signs him because Jerry Jones likes strong arms and above average mobility or the Saints which would be a great place. His style is similiar to Drew Brees and he would learn alot from Payton and Brees.

It does give the Falcons something different to work on besides who the 3rd string quarterback will be.

It doesn't matter. This is Ryan's team and if Ryan goes down our prayers will be with Redman.

.........if Redman goes down we will be holding message boards tryouts.

Sign with another team??? blink.gif

I though that DJ had already used all of his college eligibility while at UGA..... Maybe Lane Kiffin can use him at USC or perhaps there might be an opening for QB at Tennessee (they can certainly use some players with good character)

Shockley is getting lots of love on twitter after the news of his release. It was great the falcons signed him after the season again so he could continue to work on his game and then releasing him at a perfect time to possibly be brought in with another team. It shows they thought alot of DJ.

I'm not so sure. It was kinda like they were saying that even though training camp hasn't started you are not going to make this team. We'll take our chances on injuries,

Im pretty sure they had no intentions of keeping him even when they signed off the practice squad as soon as the season ended last year. They wanted him to have the resources of a nfl offseason, mini camps, OTA's and everything else available up until the last minute. The falcons may bring in someone to run drills with parker in camp but the falcons will not have a battle for 3rd string.

It is a new day in Atlanta. Shock waves are reverberating. This release is a giant wake up call to the rest of the team - no one's job is safe! After all, DJ had perfected the role of "QB in waiting" but still he was let go!

DJ even managed to get injured during the one year where he might have taken a snap during a regular season game thus keeping his perfect record unmarred. He doggedly persisted on, never complaining about the lack of recognition for his league leading non-playing streak and his outstanding work promoting the Falcons brand and keeping the UGA nut huggers on board and in line.

Now the Falcons will have to live or die based solely on their ability to win football games. It is a new world and a new challenge for a franchise that has previously always been willing to keep and coddle at least one hometown hero. Will the Falcons rue the day they parted ways with the fans who insist on a local boy on the roster? Who can say ...

Oh wait. The Falcons had to make an 80-man limit and so they dropped Schockley. Hmmm. Makes sense. Never mind.

There was a QB that TD was high on a few years back, Brandstetter. He's with the Bronco's. The Bronco's are way QB heavy right now. There is a chance that kid gets cut. He's be a good developmental player. He has a big time arm, and good overall instincts. Small school product though.

Not saying cutting DJ is a sure thing the Falcons are preparing for Brandstetter, I am just saying that getting rid of Da Future, maybe we can have a future back up to Matt.

Falcons dump D.J. Shockley, again

Posted by Mike Florio on July 9, 2010 9:51 PM ET

After the 2005 college football season, Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley was viewed as a guy who could become a legitimate NFL starter.

But he slid all the way to round seven in the 2006 draft, making him the first former Bulldog in more than a decade who was picked by the Falcons.

He has yet to make it onto the field in a regular-season game at the Georgia Dome, and if he ever does it will be for the team playing against the Falcons.
