My time in enemy territory

I went to North Carolina with my girlfriend to support her in the untimely passing of her mother (They had the ceremony in Elizabeth City her mothers hometown). Her relatives were mostly Dallas Cowboy fans and gave me a little ribbing for proudly wearing my Roddy White jersey there. I was surprised to not see one person wearing a Panthers jersey there and how divided some of their loyalties were firsthand (Thank God I'm a Falcons fan :D !!).

I live in North Carolina and can honestly say the Panthers fans are few and far between.

Steelers, Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins fans outnumber them tenfold. It's a mix of fans here.

Most "Carolina" fans here wont discuss football unless the Panthers are on top of the division. They fall

back on the Tarheels and Duke basketball whenever sports are brought up.

Bunch of weaklings anyway. The few football discussions i've had with 'true' Panthers fans up here

enlightened me to the fact that they know less about their own team than i do. I had to actually inform one

so-called "die-hard panties fan" that Delhomme was in Cleveland now.

You definitely hit the head on the nail with that statement. Her family only discussed their love of Duke basketball, Virginia Tech, and Dallas Cowboys football.

This thread leads me to saying this.

As you all here in Atlanta know, the population is real diverse from other states

Atlanta's population is growing at a TREMENDOUS pace. which means other NFL team fans are here now too.

I said all that to say, we cant take a stand out in the streets, But that dome is OURS!!

Thats our nest! and thats where we should DEFEND.

I will be proud to admit that I will be sitting in the third level this year..But at least I am there. That mean there is one less seat for the opposing fan.

SO RISE UP!! GET IN THOSE SEATS!! EVEN IF YOU CAN ONLY AFFORD ONE GAME< DEFEND THE DOOOOOMMMEEE!!!!!

Lol, being in enemy territoy is just so much fun! And all panther fans were fans of someone else before '95. :)

That has a lot to do with it. All my family is up in NC. I've been in Atlanta almost 25 years now. I kind of had divided loyalties at first, because I was admittedly excited to see them get a team of their own. But this whole thread is correct - it's Duke, the Tarheels, a lot of Redskins fans and Cowboys fans, that just go way back because of the winning traditions of those franchises. (don't flame me for that, it was true back in the day...).

I'm still trying to convert some of my family, but honestly, I couldn't tell you if any of them are even Panthers fans. The ones I know who like pro FB, are all fans of teams much further away.

I saw the exact same thing when I was in NC. Panther fans are very scarce these days. One of my cousins actually admitted to being a Dolphin fan and not really a Panther fan.

Mid North carolina and Farther east their are alot more of them...But where I live in Western NC and they are not that many but still a few....just when they do bad none of them are wearing the clothes or hats lol

I'm in Greenville SC, and there a few Panthers fans here. Apparently, none of them have cable. Go to any sportsbar on a sunday, and the Panthers game is always the only one on that has sound. Why would you go to a bar to watch the game if you have your game on TV every single week, no NFL Sunday ticket needed. MOST Panthers fans are of no use to me.

I went to an away game in 2004 in Carolina. I must say that without a doubt it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had @ an away game. The Panthers fans absolutely loathed Vick and I had on a game issue black rookie from 2001 that nearly got ruined by Pantie fans throwing food at me. I wasn't even instigating or talking smack back because they were already so hostile that I knew It would end in being escorted out or arrested. I know that you can expect some hazing and a somewhat harsh environment @ away games, but they were absolutely the most classless I have ever seen, although...I have not been to a Aint's away game yet, and by the way they act on a message board, i wouldn't expect much more in that shythole they call home. So no thanks, I'd much rather go back to Raymond James to see an away game with a rival.

pretty much...my mom grew up a Steelers fan, one uncle a Redskins fan, the other a Cowboys fanatic. I only know of two authentic Carolina fans, they're both from Greensboro where I stay at now. usually at the sports bar I frequent during football season, there are more Jacksonville fans on a regular basis, than anybody else. can't complain too bad, aside from silly people talking **** they don't even know about, don't get into too many altercations concerning the Panthers v. Falcons. if anything, it's the rest of the NFC trying to bag on the Falcons any given Sunday. I can't defend the dome, but I defend J.P. Looney's

I've been going to the road game against the Panthers for years. I love mixing it up with their fans because they hate us - and Atlanta - so much. I just like to rub it in with 'em, to be honest with you. I have a long history of antagonizing Carolina fans (remember "Carologic"?) :P My impression is that their fans "support" (and I use the term loosely) the Panthers essentially because it gives them something to do on a Sunday afternoon. I mean, what else is there to do other than go hang out at Southpark Mall?

I went to a road game against the Panthers. I found their fans to be a bit lame. No one really cared all that much about the game. I think alot does have to do with the fact they are still a "relatively" new team to Carolina. Same with the Nationals. I went to see a game against the Mets (I'm a Mets fan) and those fans sucked too.

This is surprising too, since haven't they had 2 SB appearances? Or at least one and an almost. No mean feat for a new team. If they do well again, I'm sure you'll see the bandwagon fill up. Just like the Taints....

Hey Guys, you do not have to be in "Enemy Territory" to feel lost in the wilds.

There are 45 homes in our neighborhood right here in NE GA and my wife and I are

the ONLY Falcon fans among the bunch.

Nearly all are not pro football fans at all and others claim to be college fans

but they really support their school and it's team. Many do not even know who

the QB is on their school team.

EDIT OH, I just claim to be a casual fan, not a football expert.
