Unknøwn
The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to place second baseman Chase Utley and third baseman Placido Polanco on the disabled list later Tuesday, a source told ESPN.com.Utley has a thumb injury and Polanco has been bothered by an elbow injury.Utley suffered the injury while sliding into second base Monday night in a failed attempt to stretch a leadoff single into a double against Cincinnati. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI earlier in the day Tuesday.Polanco received a cortisone injection in his right elbow Monday and has acknowledged that the injury may require offseason surgery. Both Phillies were candidates for starting spots in the upcoming All-Star Game in Anaheim. Polanco, second in the National League in batting to Atlanta's Martin Prado with a .318 average, held a slight lead over the Mets' David Wright in the most recent balloting at third base.Utley, who's hitting .277 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs, is the leading vote getting at second base in the National League. He's been the NL's starting second baseman every year since 2006.It's uncertain how long either player will be out, or what moves the Phillies plan to make to fill the two roster voids.
