Week 10 vs Carolina Game Analysis

Recommended Posts

- Thomas Johnson was back. No Vance Walker today.

- Svitek starting at LT for Sam baker.

- Turner breaks 41 yard run.

- Elam 35 yd FG 3-0 Atlanta.

- Babs busts through the line TFL.

- Delhomme collides with Stewart and sacked by Peterson.

- Stewart TD at the goal line. Tye Hill was beaten 3 times on their TD drive. 3-7 Panthers.

- TJ and JA98 stuff Williams at the line.

- Smith catches TD on Hill who is also called for pass interference. 3-14 Panthers.

- Carolina's offense is playing very well.

- 4th and 8 on Carolina 37 we go for it and get it PI on Gamble covering R. White.

- Turner is having a great 1st half. 9-111 and then hurts ankle in 2nd quarter with 8:00 min left. He could have hit his 3rd straight 150 yard game.

- Toss to Snelling TD 14-10 Panthers.

- Decoud almost gets a pick on a deep ball overthrown to Steve Smith.

- Panthers O line playing great. Good pass blocking and excellent run blocking.

- Ryan overthrows Jenkins and picked.

- Grimes nice tackle on Smith. Lifts him off the ground.

- Grime missed tackle on Rosario.

- TJ and Biermann stuff Stewart at goaline TFL.

- Smith beats Lofton for TD and takes a shot from Decoud. 21-10 Panthers with 1:08 left in first half. 21-10 Panthers.

- Jenkins drop.

- Koenen punts to Carolina 4 yd line with 34 sec left. 21-10 Panthers at half.

- Ryan almost picked looking for Gonzalez.

- Elam FG 21-13 Panthers.

- Moose beats Grimes for 1st down.

- Chauncey Davis blocks 51 yd FG attempt.

- Snelling stopped at goaline twice. Go for it on 4th down, PA to Peele TD. Go for 2 and don't get it ( dont agree with that call ). 21-19 Panthers.

- Biermann pressures Delhomme and bats ball away on 3rd down. Big play.

- 3rd and 11 on our own 1 yard line 1st down to Gonzalez.

- Snelling decleats a Panthers CB on a R. White catch up the sideline.

- Elam shanks 34 yd FG with 6:30 left in 4th that would have put us ahead. 21-19 Panthers.

- Weems good return on punt to 50 yd line.

- Very next play Ryan overthrows Jenkins again and is picked.

- 3rd and 5 Stewart 45 yd TD 28-19 Panthers 2:07 left.

- Peppers gets pressure and forces Ryan incompletion.

- Final 28-19 Carolina.

- Defense did not play well. Moose dominated our corners. Hill played awful.

- Svitek did a pretty good job on Peppers, but we did double him alot on passing downs.

- I would have liked to have Vance in this game. He is pretty good against the run so he might have came in handy against a great running team.

- Panthers O line did a number on our front 7. Both RB's had over 80 yds and had a high ypc average.

This is the game that I was thinking Turner was gonna go well over two hundred yards(career day).He was running through that Carolina line like they were a bunch of tackling dummies. Also it was the game where my worst fear came true, what if Turner or Ryan went down with an injury, especially turner with norwood already injured. But snelling over the rest of the season more than proved that he is a very capable back-up. He actually had me chanting Snelling for president in a few games.

I could only imagine what a healthy dose of Turner, Norwood and Snelling with do to opposing defenses. This might be as interesting as watching our defense perform this year.

I agree that this game got Tye Hill cut because he was God awful! Smith had to replaced the guy after 3 series. Even on that play when Deangelo Williams spun out of traffic for his first big run, Tye Hill was out of position again which added another 20 yards to that run. The defense did play better once Tye Hill was benched

I also have to add that this was probably one of Matt Ryan's worse games last year. Not only because of the interceptions but for all of the misreads and unnecessary early departures from the pocket. On the very first drive when the falcons were in the red zone, the Panthers had a linebacker covering Jenkins and Ryan completely misread the mismatch and didn't even go to the wide open Jenkins that had beaten his man easily. Falcons had to settle for a field goal. There were numerous check down opportunities that Ryan missed only to roll to the right and throw the ball away.

I'm kind of tired of hearing about what Norwood could do if he were ever healthy. He's never been healthy for an entire season, and I'll be surprised if he ever stays healthy for one. Some guys can't handle the punishment, and he appears to be one of them. And as good as Turner is, I think Smith did to him his first year what John Fox did to Stephen Davis in 2003. You can only run somebody so hard in one season before they start to break down. He's great when he's healthy, and Snelling deserves to get more touches, but there's injurty question marks with the first two guys.

I understand why you are tired of hearing about a healthy Norwood, but as long as he stays with the falcons you might wanna get used to it. I for one question his ability to stay healthy, but you never know. But I still like the possibility that he just do it. He would be deadly on screen plays.

The Elam miss in the middle of the fourth completely changed the complexion of the game. Falcons would have taken the lead and gone to clock control, Ryan wouldn't have pressed and been intercepted, no Carolina 45-yd TD run. If ever there was a pivotal play, that was it.

Good post Clark.

Here are my GBU notes from that game:

THE GOOD

-Koenan was booming the kick offs. Give him Eleft's job. Couldn't do much worse

-The Oline gave up ZERO sacks

-Snelling went off in the third quarter

-Weems had a nice return to set up a win

-Coleman came to play. He was the only one that did on defense

-Turner was rolling

-Grimes did a decent job for a change

-Both safeties tackled well

-Chauncey had a great block to keep us in it

-Coaches made good half time adjustments

-Ryan made plenty nice 3rd down plays

-Both backs were bouncing it outside very effectively

-Tony G punked West. It appears he don't take no S

-Decoud almost had another pick

-Mularkey is way better than most think

-99 had some nice stops

-Announcers said Biermann always seems to be around the ball

THE BAD

-Smitty had a brain fart on the go for two decision. That couldn't be what was on the card

-Where Oh where has our little Abe gone? Where oh where can he be?

-Zinger better catch the ball. Fck the footsteps you hear

-Ryan needs to look underneath before throwing the ball away on some of those boots

-CAR ran more hurry up than us. The defense couldn't handle it

-Mushin loves Atlanta Falcon DBs

-I hate the soft BVG corner cushions. Hate em

-Slip screens to Jenkins? You gotta be freakin kidding me

-We got out coached in the first half

-Announcers thought CAR had some pre snap reads on our offense. Second time this has happened

-Went for it on 4th and 8 from the 37. That's a 54 yarder. Punt or find a kicker

-Snelling better get his pads lower or he will get jacked again. Fudge style

-Announcers said even at this stage in his career Ryan is bad

-The Panties are looking good

-Goose said Ryan had underneath open on the pump FRAKE

-McClure holding on a great Snelling 3rd down run for a first. Dam mit

-Our TEs are not blocking like they were last year. They were beastly then

THE UGLY

-Ryan was abysmal. The two picks were loss inducing. Bad footwork all day. This has to improve

-Elam needs to be strung up by his jewels, along with the long snapper

-Where oh where is our pass rush today? Where oh where could it be? Everybody was a ghost

-We got absolutely gashed by the Pantie run game

-The Burner injury. Fck!

-The Dline sucked in every phase

-The CAR Oline flat out smoked our Dline

-Awful time management in the 4th quarter

-The Stewart run. Kinda vomit inducing

How could you not include Tye Hill on your ugly list? He was the ugliest of all!
