mookie3127
i was looking for another article on the USA Today site and found this one instead. i don't see it happening anytime soon, but thought i'd add it here for everyone...LinkageFlorida State athletic director admits discussing a possible move to the SECWould Florida State consider leaving the ACC for the SEC? Seminoles athletic director Randy Spetman admitted there have been some discussions about a possible move if the SEC is looking for more teams. The potential for such a scenario would occur if the Big Ten goes to 14 or 16 teams and the SEC feels like it must respond. Speculation would be that the conference would look to add a combination of ACC schools that might include Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Clemson and Georgia Tech. "And it's certainly a topic that we have to be aware of and we have to look [into it]," Spetman said. "You know, we're very happy in the ACC. But there are so many different [scenarios], as you see written every day."FSU coach Jimbo Fisher, who coached in the SEC as an assistant at LSU, wasn't ready to enter into the discussion and state his preference. "I don't have one. Because you're putting the cart before the horse. Until you see what someone does, or what they're trying to do … I think you're putting the cart before the horse in my opinion." stumpjumper
I just don't see Georgia Tech joining the SEC unless that money call outweighs everything else.

Andrew
I can see FSU, maybe even Clemson but all the other colleges fan bases are not SEC worthy. I personally would rather Clemson stay out for our benefit, even though I'd love to see us play them more often, I just don't want them in the same conference with us.Just my opinion... Andrew
Oh by the way, Virginia Tech too. If I had to pick in the ACC it would be VT and FSU.
mookie3127
i wouldn't be a fan of the moves. i would much rather have 4 or 5 conferences that are competing than it being left up for grabs for the Big 10 and the SEC. i think Miami and FSU have that "big name" to make the transition, but i'm not a fan. i'd much rather see teams like NC, BC, NCS, and Clemson improve and make the ACC a better conference. iQue
Yeah, but it would certainly help the SEC with recruiting to have a team located in Virginia.Good point. If it were to happen the two logical choices are Clemson and FSU and that would be **** on UGA in the recruitment department.
ramblinwreck9
Georgia Tech would be more academically suited for the Big 10(Yes, I have read that rumor) instead of the SEC. I would rather see Tech in the Big 10 instead of the SEC. GT would not stay in the ACC if another conference showed interest just because of the financial gains from moving to either the SEC or Big 10. It would not be a good financial move for GT not to join the SEC or Big 10 if the opportunity was there. I love the idea of the potential match-ups by joining either conference. Tech already plays UGA every year and it would be nice to get TN and Auburn back on the schedule. With either an SEC or Big 10 schedule Tech would not have problems selling out like they do vs. teams like Duke and Wake Forest.

How about when GT plays its biggest rival UGA and still can't sell it out? SEC teams typically fill up 90k stadiums against Division II opponents. How about when GT plays its biggest rival UGA and still can't sell it out? SEC teams typically fill up 90k stadiums against Division II opponents.GT's alumni are more spread out across the country and just not as large as UGA's. Also, GT does not have all the sidewalk fans that UGA has. Most GT fans either attended there or have ties family wise. It's a shame that many of GT's students are just there for the education and many of them do not even care about supporting athletics. That's just the way it is. GT will never have a 90K seat stadium and that does not bother me. Call it a HS stadium if you want but at least the fans that do show up are all fans of GT sports not just GT football. If GT moved to the SEC and got teams like Auburn, TN or FL then it might not fill up with GT fans but the fans of those schools would show up and that means ticket sales. As much as I would love to see BDS filled with Tech fans I would prefer just to see it filled. Personally, I would like to see things stay the way they are and the Big Ten just add one more school and make get a Championship game. If they were to add a team like GT then they would potentially pick up more viewers(subscribers) for the Big 10 Network in this region which would mean more revenue. That was just a rumor that was floating around and I doubt it would happen but it makes for good off season conversation.

You have the non revenue generating sports that now have to spend a lot more money. They are not making any revenue and now running those additional programs is more costly and if people aren't paying attention there are a lot of universities that are bleeding right now. That additional overhead btw is an impt factor that people who are just looking at the football or basketball aspect of it just don't care about. It's why if the SEC did add teams it would make more sense to take from the ACC then to add teams from the big 12. Travel expenses and those other programs won't be hurt as much. That's why the big 10 would only look at gt once all their other options are exhausted.
