Orlando Ledbetter/AJC)FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons received a slight scare in the afternoon practice when wide receiver Kerry Meier, the team’s fifth round draft pick, pulled up while running a reverse. He appeared to suffer a minor upper leg injury and the trainers rushed over to evaluate him. He was walking fine later. The final practice will be held Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. Here are some of the highlights from the second day of the Falcons’ minicamp: * Rookie linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, the Falcons first round pick, made two sensational pass breakups while defending against running back Dimitri Nance in coverage. * Meier was having a big day before suffering the injury. He went high to snag a Matt Ryan pass near the sideline on one play. He had at least three super catches. * Brandyn Harvey continues to dazzle with this sharp route running and his ability to separate from defenders. He’s a big target at 6-4, 205 pounds. He was an undrafted college free agent from Villanova. * Running back Jason Snelling was slamming the ball hard off tackle and appeared to have a nice open field burst while charging down field. * Wide receiver Eric Weems made the team last season and continues to make tough catches. He also looked good running a reverse. * Tackle Sam Baker has really been attacking players in the 11 on 11 drills. He was mixed up in at least two skirmishes. atljbo
I was telling some about Brandyn Harvey... Dude is a very good WR ..... He has great speed, great blocker, good hands, and run good routes for a 6'4 205lbs WR.I'm glad to see Sam Baker out there looking aggressive. WoTFan
It seems like Meier is a vacuum. All I hear out of camp is about his hands.
Guest Gritz
* Tackle Sam Baker has really been attacking players in the 11 on 11 drills. He was mixed up in at least two skirmishes. This is my favorite part of that report. Seems like Sam might be tired of Dahl and Clabo getting all of the "Nasty Boys" O-line pub. nobkowski
I can see it now - Meier running a reverse, then suddenly stopping and throwing a nice pass back accross the field to .................................................Mattie Ice for the td. you heard it here first. Only if Ryan is already in the end zone - no running after the catch. I bet Smith and Dimitroff still have nightmares of Ryan's helicopter fumble at the goal-line. RyanFalconMan
I am starting to become a huge Kerry Meier fan. Let the boy get healthy because I think he is going to be the secret weapon for the Falcons.
