Biermann working on his dance moves for Alzheimer’s Association

BIRDLAND — Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann has been working on his dance moves.

No, he doesn’t plan to dance around offensive tackle this season.

But he does hope to help raise funds for the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in a “Dancing with the Stars” type competition that will be held 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at The Foundry at Puritan Mill.

The event, which has Ambassador Andrew Young serving as the honorary event chair, is called the “Dancing Stars of Atlanta.”

Biermann is currently training with and will perform with a professional dancer from the Daza Dance Academy and Academy Ballroom.

“I’ve got a great partner,” Biermann said. “She really knows what she’s doing. I think we’ll come up with a pretty good routine.”

Biermann was set to leave for his final practice in Alpharetta on Wednesday. He didn’t want to give up too much about the routine, though.

“It’s kind of a style of West Coast swing,” Biermann said. “It’s a lot of footwork in there. A lot of moves that will excite the crowd. It’s going to be good.”

Some of the other celebrity dancers include Sheree’ Whitfield, from the popular TV show “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”; Tom Kinkelaar, Georgia Tech assistant baseball coach; Carolyn Young, community activist, wife of Ambassador Young; Cindy Lou Harrington, accomplished singer-songwriter; Joanne Truffelman, chairman and co-owner of TG Madison advertising agency; Rep. Elly Dobbs, Georgia state house representative; Leslie Anderson, president/chief executive officier, Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, and Rich D’Amaro, chairman and chief executive officer of Tatum, LLC.

Some of the judges will include the lovely Jovita Moore of WSB-TV and Justin Farmer. Also, Daza Dance’s new president, Michael Reeves, who partnered with Cheryl Burke, two-time winner of Dancing with the Stars, prior to moving to Atlanta will be a judge.

Here’s what Biermann is asking the Falcons fans to do for him. If you can’t purchase tickets and attend, then he needs you to vote.

You can purchase your tickets today or join Kroy’s efforts by voting for Kroy at http://dancingstarsofatlanta.com. One vote equals $1 that goes towards supporting programs and services of Alzheimer’s Association.

Who knows, maybe Biermann could be following in the footsteps of Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice and Chad Ochocinco and be on the real “Dancing with the Stars” next season.

So....Biermann can sack the QB, play special teams, kick off, and.....Dance.
