Just listened to TD on the radio / the end of JA98

I just got done listening to him as a guest on The Herd, and Colin asked him why we didn't pick a DE on the draft like we wanted to seeing that it was one of our needs in the draft. TD answered him saying that he's confident that Biermann and Sidbury will develop into outstanding players for our line. He also mentioned that he believes Abraham has gas left in his tank (I think so, too) and that last year we didn't have Jerry b/c of injury and they're expecting him to come back healthy.

Basically, he named all of our defensive lineman starters + Biermann and Sidbury EXCLUDING ONE. That one being JA98. I think they're giving up on him. He's had his chances. My guess is TD's going to try to trade him or release him soon because he's officially considered a bust. It's not by coincidence TD didn't mention his name once, they're planning something. They have an idea of what they want to do with him, i just hope it's sooner than later.

Thoughts??

If they release Davis over JA98 the fan base here would flip out. I know I would for once question the FO with a move like that.

I don't for a second see that happening. Davis is very good depth. Walker & Johnson are both better DT's than JA98 as well.

I think they just dont look at JA98 as a starter... He will be a utility type DE... A guy who can play some DE/DT ... The same for Chauncey Davis.

I'm glad to see that Sid will get more snaps....

Training camp is going to be intersting....

Will we carry 5 DE's ?

Will we carry more then 4 DT's ?

There is a thread on TD talking on the Sirius Blitz

today and they asked him about JA98. According to the

OP'S transcription, TD said Anderson was versatile and

how the draft came out would shape how they used him.

The OP assumed that meant DE. I would agree that we do

not need him inside.

JA98 needs to show up for camp and try to win his job

back as a starting DE. The MB hates him but if he was

getting cut from some other team they would be hollering

"bring him home, TD!". He is 6'6" and 285 lbs. is a former

receiver who can move, etc. I think it is too early to

count him out.

Sounds like he didnt mention Chauncey Davis either, so I think it will be either one of them that could be released especially if we go with 5 DT's

I heard the same interview and he didn't mention Anderson, Davis, Walker, Johnson, Babineaux, etc. Holy crap, they must be getting an early start on the 75 player cut down.

The discussion was in the context of addressing the pass rush in the draft so he basically referenced Abe having a bounce back year, the young DE's making strides, injured players coming back, and what the addition of new players can mean. He's focusing on the positive. Why would he say he thinks the pass rush was addressed by JA being a disappointment, Davis being mediocre after 6 years, and the cast of role players in PJ's abscence?

It's a long offseason and often times there is nothing better to do than mirages between the lines.

From all accounts they are NOT planning on releasing Jamaal. I don't like it either but they aren't. TD has said multiple times that Smitty is planning on using him in a similar roll as last yr. I heard him say this at least twice personally. He mentioned our young guys minus Jamaal but they do intent on trying to use him this next yr. I do, however, feel like they have given up on him being a pass rushing threat as well. They do plan on using him though. Even if it is just in the rotation somewhere. Let's hope he shocks us this yr but don't count on it. I'm pretty sure that this is his last yr with us if he doesn't. Might be keeping him around right now because of his salary and the lack of a trade partner.

Yup, another interview where he isn't even mentioned. I def feel lik JA is going to be out before the season starts.

I bet he didn't mention Jesus either.....Does that mean he is done with Jesus too?

Don't read too much in to this. Either way, I won't be surprised. It's just not typical to decide a player is not going to make the team long before camp starts.

Him not mentioning him by name doesn't indicate anything. Jamaal wasn't relevant to the conversation at hand. He asked why he didn't draft a DE, TD said because he feels that Sid and Beirmann are developing. In no way does that indicate that Jamaal is being released or traded. And he said that he thinks Abe is still going to be a productive DE. Would it have been a good sign if he mentioned Jamaal? Yes, but there is room in the rotation for him he didn't need to be named for this conversation.

I'm not saying he is or isn't being released or if I think he should be, but this indicates nothing.

Jamaal would have to have a rabbits foot in his left pocket a four leaf clover in his right pocket, see a shooting star while rubbing a magic lamp to grant his wish of being a DE.

JA98 could guess a snap was on 1 and he wouldn't be offsides when they snapped it on 2.

His problems start with the fact he is about 1/4 second later than everyone else on the snap and he never makes that lost time up. I never see him get driven back out of a play, he just never has a chance to develop any leverage for penetration. He just looks slow, bottom line.

He needs to spend a summer with the DE coach shocking him in the a$$ with a cattle prod at the snap to heighten his reactivition time / explosion or something.
