Falcon Fanatic
It is of mind staggering proportions to think how that would have changed the entire SEC landscape had Texas came into the SEC. Thanks for sharing that Sac.
freakyfalcon
Good read. Its funny the article mentions that Florida was pushing for Florida State and Miami to join the SEC. There are multiple articles during that time that states otherwise. Also that is the first I heard about Dooley pushing for Tech. I know for a fact that he was pushing for South Carolina. Some officials wanted Clemson to join and Dooley didnt want that at all. He was scared of Clemson.

He was scared of Clemson.this info came from dr. schiller. understand he won't say anything negative about florida or georgia when it comes to the expansion. he is not telling the truth imo there. both florida and georgia did not want their respective rivals to come into the sec.. gt already had their shot and they left. I dont think he was scared of Clemson.I wouldn't say Dooley was necessarily scared of Clemson, but during that time period UGA was certainly not dominating Clemson. From 1986-1991, Clemson was 3-1 against UGA, and coming off four straight 10 win seasons.

I dont think he was scared of Clemson.Yes he had a good record against Clemson, but they always gave us fits when we played them. Plus Clemson was a thorn in our side when it came to recruiting. They stole alot of our big time in-state talent back then and almost got Herschel Walker. Clemson joining the SEC would have taken them over the edge and Vince didnt want any part of that. Sac and I talked about this before. Im trying to find that article where we were going to extend invitations to either South Carolina or Clemson. Vince didnt want Clemson but pushed for South Carolina.
