A league source with knowledge of the situation in Oakland says JaMarcus Russell has beefed up to 300 pounds according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

We're also told that the former LSU star isn't getting good advice from his family.

"It's a drag on the kid and they encourage his poor lifestyle," an NFL source told the National Football Post.

With Russell's big contract, lack of conditioning, the acquisition of Jason Campbell and the presence of Kyle Boller and Bruce Gradkowski, the handwriting is carved into the wall on this one.

He's on the Rod Coleman diet, the "eat his way outta the league" plan.. Coleman let himself go, when he coulda had a few more good years.. as did Whitfield and a few other Falcons. . I loved it on MTV Cribs when Coleman said "i like to sleep off steaks in here" LOLOLOL

His problem isn't his weight its his work ethic, which apparently he has none.

Boy, with a couple of exceptions (A Peterson, Cal Johnson, Pat Willis) that 07 draft is looking pretty lousy.

Ryan Leaf 3 years - 4-17 317-655 48.4% 3666 14td 36int

Russell 3 years - 7-18 354-680 52.1% 4083 18td 23int

Pretty similar...

He probably wont care much.. he already got like 68 million.. he can eat his way to heart disease.

He probably does, but his family like, s*** we got money, you don't need this s*** in response to the negative talk surrounding his career. He gave up going into last season. He had a lot of potential and showed sign of being a very good QB. That's where you work a lot harder than before. He did not so...

His weight goes hand in hand with his work ethic. It was going to be tough for him to become a very good QB. He didn't have the will and the support system was weaker than he is.

At least we know Matty is watching film and training and not hangin with his posse' playing video games and fighting dogs like Vick did in the offseason.
