Clausen, why all the hate article

It's interesting. It addresses the idiotic statements some have been trying to use to discredit him over the last few months. "He had too much talent around him", "He's a one hit wonder", "his attitude is horrible".

The Ryan exert since reading that entire article is too much to expect from most and understandingly so. It is a huge article. vvv

To put Clausen's performance in perspective, his true sophomore numbers are roughly the same or better than Matt Ryan's senior season in every category except sacks (dead even at 21), attempts (Ryan had roughly 200 more), total passing yardage (Ryan had 700-plus yards more than any other pro-style quarterback drafted in the first round since 2004), and touchdowns (Ryan had 6 more TDs than Clausen). Yes, Clausen had fewer interceptions, a better completion percentage and more yards per attempt as a true sophomore than Ryan, the senior, No. 3 overall pick in 2008.

The difference in Ryan and Clausen is that no one questioned Ryan's intangible qualities, it was recognized right away that he had "it."

Not that I think Clausen will suck. For all I know he could die a legend. It wasn't a bad decision on your team's part. But it sucks for Diet Matty Ice, because it sends him a message that the job may not be his if he jake's it up out there this season.

That's the thing. not to stray too far from the subject but I think "it" is a myth. Every year you hear announcers spouting off about who has it and who doesn't. Flacco and Ryan, no "it" involved imo, you just have two guys with good mechanics that make good decisions, and those are the attributes that will help them have good careers.

Matty 'Nice' should feel slighted. Kid seems like a genuinely nice guy and has done everything asked of him and has excelled doing as such. I like him as the future of the Panthers but, he won't get a fair shake, he'll be benched after the first couple questionable throws, I can even seeing them trying to trade him before the season starts or something.

I just don't like him because he is a complete and total doosh.

Understandable. I'm guessing his attitude will take a little time to get used to.

If he does decent, He'll be treated like Rivers (the fans overlooking his attitude), if he fails, he'll be treated like Cutler (the fans bringing up his sh1tty attitude nonstop).

Listen, I think your being a bit uptight about this so far. I like the pick and I'm an ND fan over 40 some odd years running so I am a pretty good judge of their players. It is the Armanti Edwards pick you should be upset about!

I'm not upset about the Clausen pick. I was just listing the different ways haters try to rip on Clausen, that article addresses each one and dispels all the rumors.

I like the Edwards pick, he's a hometown boy that's an athlete similar to Steve Smith, He'll make up for the hometown boy that was let go (Hoover). The only pick I was weary of was Pike!

the guy is a young kid thats been told how gteat he was all his life and it went to his head, but it seems(by what some are saying)that he has matured some, and theres no doubt in my mind that when he gets around men that he will get a bit of humility and lessons about how to be a man in the nfl...i think the kid could be a pretty darn good qb if he has the work ethic to try to be the best at his craft

I really like clausen but to say he was better than ryan or to try and compare the two is just wrong.

Name one NFL player Ryan played with on offense?

Clausen? A couple of his lineman went pro. Floyd will be a high/mid 1st rounder if he comes out. Carlson was a 2nd rounder. Tate was a 2nd rounder. Kyle rudolph will be a 1st or 2nd rounder, plus Brady Quinn put up solid numbers under weiss. How far did he go? Factor all of that in with the level of competition they played and each qbs success and ryan is so far ahead of clausen it's ridiculous.

Clausen will be a good NFL qb though. I've been saying he'll be the best out of this class for a while. Panthers got a good one.

:P Ryan wasn't the only one being compared, the article compared Clausen to all the first round Qbs in recent years. Some of the ones that were taken in the first had a lot more talent surrounding them than Clausen did. Some had worse stats. Ryan is one of the only ones on the list that had less talent around him and put up better stats in a few areas.

Not to stray too far, but you brought quinn up, I have to add that he went to the Browns. How well would Ryan or any other young qb have played for the Browns? I think the Browns ruined him, I think the Browns ruin almost everyone they touch.

I keep a collection of really stupid predictions, just added one more to it.

Was it a prediction or was it a simple observation of the reaction we'd all have if it did indeed happen?

You're right, I'm replacing it with this:

We know he has a good history of beating the Saints or at least keeping it close with them. Has a good recent history of slicing through the Falcons secondary. Has horrible games against the Bucs but his teams are still lucky enough to win, more times than not. Will probably put up 500 yards and 6 TD on the Panthers (A Panthers pass D that will probably be top 5 at the time).

Calling it. Delhomme and the Browns will whup all our arses.

That IS a prediction, and it goes in the stupid predictions file

I'm just surprised that there is all this Clausen controversy. What say you 08'?

I'm as shocked as anyone. The coverage the Panthers have been getting after this draft, good and bad, is more than I've ever seen them get. Both from fans around the league and the media.

If by some chance Clausen gets the chance to start next season and looks better than Bradford, I fully expect Mel Kiper Jr to go on the air and say "Told you so b1tches!"

Was that a prediction or was it humor filled banter between rival fans? :) You look too deep into things friend. Sit back and just enjoy.

I am enjoying myself:lol:, I also save little tidbits like that because they can come in handy later.

And I don't understand the Clausen hatred- I think the panthers lucked out, i started a thread in TAFT about how this division will be known as a QB heavy division in a couple of years.
