I have no doubt the defense will be much improved this season

Recommended Posts

I am very excited about this defense this season. First consider the talent we'll have on the field this season that we didn't last.

#2 DT Peria Jerry (09 1st rounder)

WLB Sean Weatherspoon (10 1st rounder)

#1 CB Dunta Robinson (04 1st rounder)

SS William Moore (09 2nd rounder)

#3 DT Corey Peters (10 3rd rounder)

3 1st rounders, a 2nd, and a 3rd is quite an influx of talent.

Now consider the key contributers last season that were in their 1st few seasons in the league and will be better this season

RE Kroy Biermann (Entering 3rd season)

MLB Curtis Lofton (Entering 3rd season)

OLB Stephen Nicholas (Entering 4th season)

CB Brent Grimes (Entering 4th season)

FS Thomas Decoud (Entering 3rd season)

There are some more but you get the point. Is there anyone who thinks our D wont be better than last year? Im excited

I think our defense will probably be better too, mainly at CB and OLB. But we have to plan for the possibility of injuries. At this point last year, Peria Jerry and William Moore would've been on this kind of list as well, and both are still injury-prone. Then later, Brian Williams. I'm just saying, it's all on paper until we see who stays healthy. But we have some more depth now.

TD has done an excellent job of building a defense for the future through the draft

At DE we could probably draft an elite pass rusher eventually when Abe is gone and Anderson is cut but we have Biermann who had 2 sacks as a rookie 5 in his 2nd year and has shown he can get to the QB, Sidbury who is a similiar project, Nicholas who has gotten sacks playing DE, Davis who is capable of 4 sacks a year or so

At DT we are set with Babineaux, Jerry, Peters, Johnson, and Vance Walker could emerge as a player as well

At LB we're set with Lofton Spoon and Nicholas, Adkins and James are depth but we could use another

At CB were looking for Grimes/Owens/Jackson to emerge and could possibly draft a CB in the 1st if they all flop

At S were good if Moore turns out to be a player

So were looking at drafting a DE eventually when Abe retires to add to the rotation, a corner if none of the players we have work out and a safety if Moore flops. We should be in position to draft O linemen to protect Ryan and surround him with weapons.

Only thing about DE is that they hardly become elite in their rookie year. Most seem to suck the first year.

Its kinda like qb. But their is exceptions to that of course.

But if we wait until abe is ready to leave, then like kerney it may be a gamble relying on a rookie to step right in and we may end up getting another JA.

In that case its likely we will have to go after a FA and draft a depth pick.

It was odd seeing so many very good DE in FA and us not go after any. But Maybe they didn't expect the draft to go the way it did.

But like dunta at CB, DE can be fixed as well. But getting healthy alone will help improve our D alone. That with the draft should help us big time.

There is still cuts as well and we might find a value player then.
