Nono
Here we are in the 4th round. I think we have made three decent picks, however other than Spoon, Peters and Johnson are filling gaps. Not having a second rounder has hurt us. I like TG a lot but I really thought with TD's savy we were going to sneak back into the 2nd. There was so many great names coming off the boards that it was almost depressing to know we didn't get our second pick till 83rd.---grrrI think the Corey Peters pick at DT over all the DE's still available signals doubt about Peria Jerry's full recovery and a weak rushing D, and I'm still hoping we do get a late-round DE. Sid and Biermann are better than decent but we still need help with the pass rush and run stop at the line.
Goodoleboy58
I think the Peters pick is trying to salvage anything they can out of JA as well. Having more penetration in the middle hopefully frees up JA.... I know im dreaming

I heard they were asking him to bulk-up thinking he would make a move to DT. He was ok against the run.

Not going to dis Tony G though, It was a great decision. Probably one of the reasons for back to back winning seasons. Just wished they could have done something to get back in. I think Spoon is a starter and I thought you could get a guy in the second that could also start.
ukfalc
That's why I don't like trading future picks. It aklways seems like a good idea at the time, but its horrible not having a picks when you can see divsion rivals getting better, and trying to make the lost pick back usually just costs you even more and compuonds the problem (e.g. giving up next year's 1st for a 2nd this year). We did the right thing staying put - and now we have 5 of the next 91 picks to add some good young depth. The Falcon Jedi
Gonzalez was worth every bit of the 2nd rounder we gave up for him.

muskokas finest ©
Not having a 2nd rounder sucked and not drafting 2nd round talent in the 3rd was disappointing as well
DUB
I'm glad we didnt trade anything. The market is so poor right now when you have 1st round guys going for 5th round picks. Carolina had to give up their 2nd next year to get Claussen. We sat still and we will grind out the rest of the draft. Next year we have everything in tact. Peyton
TD took a chance that getting TG would put the Falcons over the top. Most of us thought that it might. It didn't. I don't have any criticism of TD trading the pick for TG, if I have a criticism it is that I wish he would have done a little more in free agency to try and shore up the secondary last year, the way the Saints did. etherdome
A second round pick is always a valuable commodity. The good news is that this draft is extra ordinary in talent depth. We can still draft players on day three that will have a 50% shot of becoming a starter in two years. That does not happen very often. Peters was a value pick that happens to fill a need. We NEEDED another pass rushing DT, even if Jerry returns healthy. Don't be shocked if TD double downs on some positions, like DT and LB. I can easily see him draft another LB (Edds or Chaney) or another DT (Cam Thomas) on day three. I know that most people want "paly makers" but I want to see us draft some "foundation makers". We need them and they are still a plenty.

BlacksburgHokie
Not sure I can get on board with this when we basically got 3-4 years of the greatest TE of all time at the expense of a player in Javier Arenas who probably isn't skilled enough to be anything more than a 3rd corner. Peyton
I didn't realize that the TG thing was a one year lease.Nah, it's not, but he doesn't have that many years left. IF TD didn't think the Falcons were really close last year, then the Peterson signing and TG trade wouldn't have made sense. Do the Falcons have another window this year? I hope so.
