takeitdown
Dennis Pitta (TE) and Geno Atkins (DT)or Jordan Shipley/Andre Roberts/Jimmy Graham PLUS Geno Atkins (or Mike Johnson)I think the 3rd was the round for value in this draft, and we picked guys who would have gone later. I'm big on the trenches, but was surprised by these picks. I hope they turn out great, just wondered who would have gone this direction. I knew we were going to go DT, just thought we'd go WR (and think we would have if not for the run on them. We should have taken WR first)
HouseofEuphoria
Are you crazy?Every team was after Corey Peters! We barely rescued him from being drafted by the Raiders in the 7th round. Any scenario would have been better than the nightmare this draft has been so far. Dem Birds
I would have liked Shipley, but Smith's system relies heavily on DT's and we had to get another one more than we needed a WR. And with the run in the second round on defensive lineman that made Corey Peters a third round pick.

We went in with 3 positions of need and we filled them. WTF?!

I just thought Atkins would be solid, and more importantly, thought we should have taken the WR first, then the DT.But DT was needed. GuerillaOntology
The only reason people are upset is because nobody knows their names.Remember Chris Owens in the 3rd, and how crazy that was? Yeah, he turned out pretty decent didn't he?Relax folks, trust our FO...
Robb4242
I would have been happier with Roberts & Johnson, but I figured we were taking a DT in round 3 & have no problem with Peters. I really would have liked to have had Roberts though. Had projected him as our 2nd, 3rd round pick in my mock.
vel
I actually would have liked Griffen there even though I thought he was awful as a 1st-2nd round prospect. At 98 he becomes a steal IMO. Maybe "Bust" is written all over him in permanent marker not pencil because no team has touched him lol
Shredman
Yeah, so terrible. We went in with 3 positions of need and we filled them. WTF?! as far as i am concerned we had 1 vital need, DE, we didnt fill it, and anything lower than a 4th rd pick aint gonna get it done, i fear we will again be just medicore at best with no pass rush.... Pretty decent guards in the 4th and 5th. As usual, just hope they saw something I didn't, and hope they were right.

*NiteFalcon*
I dont think the 3rd round players we selected can be starters anytime soon, so i'd say we really only addressed the OLB need. Not much more we can do in this draft either. Lots of the good players are gone. It'll be interesting to see if we make any trades or if we can acquire a key player when cuts start happening later on.

As long as Biermann keeps developing and Sidbury develops behind Abe, we're fine there...

I was hoping one targeted would fall. Can say should have moved up and got one. But once those guys were gone I think they made the right choices. No need to draft another DE that needs 3 yrs. to develop when your roster is loaded with projects.
JBeattz
Not necessarily on Jerry- it may mean they don't like Johnson, Lewis or Anderson in the third DT role.It could also mean Babs is getting suspended. Also, Babs and Jerry are sub 300lbs, so they're on the smaller side. Not necessarily a bad thing, but Mike Smith had BIG DTs when he was at Jacksonville, and Peters is almost 6'4" and already 300 lbs.. If he can put on a bit more weight, he ends up being the large impact guy Smith is used to.

If Babs gets suspended, he can fill the void for a few games or back up Johnson/Walker. If Smitty decides to bring Jerry along slowly once the season starts, Peters can man that position until he's ready. If both scenarios come into play, then at least Peters can pose as a Grady-type presence in the middle, he's big, and can seal up the run lanes. Whew...thank God for this schedule man!!!The defense may experience a slow start once the season begins.
millenium falcon
we took peters over atkins, that says something about atkins. also we passed on everson griffen despite our desperate need at LDE. also we took an OG over tennant despite the fact that mcclure could retire any minute and we had blalock, dahl, and ojinakka under contract. they like johnson better, thats what that tells me. they like peters as a player and person. they dont want no drama and refuse to waste time and resources on the griffins and atkins of the world. they stand by the ideal's they claim. good for them, and us as fans too. JC Falcon
Look what happened to our defense when Jerry went down this past season. The NFL is not just about your starting 11, it's your depth. You need that backup or rotation guy that is only a quarter step slower, instead of the backup that is a full step slower. And frankly for positions like RB and DL the new NFL model is rotations, not a "starter" anyway.
