Falcons Draft Prospects

Recommended Posts

This is a cumulative list of everyone I could find that the Falcons have shown anywhere from a tiny amount of interest to a ton of interest. Either they've simply gone to their pro-day, interviewed them at the combine, noted as watching them at the senior bowl, asked them for an official visit, or openly stated somewhere at some time that they have an interest. None of this actually means anything significant other than some insight on what our priorities might be. It's easy to put 2&2 together on a few of these & see the picture while some just leave you scratching your head.

I'm probably leaving a few off here too so if you see someone missing, just post who they are & what round they should go in. Please don't ask for links, I've just been jotting these names down over the weeks any time I read an article or see a post & it mentions a name as an interest supported by a source. And I'm not even sure if I got all the "official" visits marked properly, but I think I do.

Looking at that list, I am willing to bet that we draft a center at some point in this draft.

Also, no officals w/ any DE's. Interesting.

Well DUR! B)

I am hoping we draft one later rather than earlier. I am thinking Eric Olsen in the 5th?

CB Joe Haden too, for the record.

I think if Haden falls to us we will pull the trigger on that no doubt. We would have 2 quality corners.

Hey Beef since you have done so much research did you notice how much time was involved in setting up a work out for these players. Like a week to 10 days? Just like to know with less than 3 weeks left. Thanks in advance :)

+1, thanks for the work. I've added stuff that I've taken away from your research (bolded)

LB

Sean Weatherspoon - mid-late 1st round (official)

Sean Lee - late 2nd or early 3rd round (official)

Jerry Hughes - 2nd round

Daryl Washington - 2nd round (official)

Dekoda Watson - late 3rd or early 4th round

Rennie Curran - late 3rd or early 4th round

Rolando McClain - mid 1st round

Donald Butler - late 3rd round

A.J. Edds - late 4th or early 5th round

Thaddeus Gibson - 3rd round

Eric Norwood - 3rd round

Joe Pawelek - UDFA

Jason Beauchamp - UDFA

Average is a 3rd round prospect, with the outlier being two first-rounders (one of which we are working out 2x) and the UDFAs. This could mean we're trying to get one of those OR a 3rd rounder, or it could be trying to throw people off ahead of us and take someone else with our first pick who could go to someone else and get a third-rounder. It's important to note that the top tiers are official.

WR

Demaryius Thomas - 1st or early 2nd round

Brandon Lafell - late 2nd round

Marcus Easley - late 5th or early 6th round (official)

Antonio Brown - late 5th or early 6th round (official)

Blair White - late 5th or early 6th round

David Gettis - late 5th or early 6th round

Freddie Barnes - 6th round (official)

Naaman Roosevelt - UDFA

Devin Guinn - UDFA

Bryan Anderson - UDFA

Ryan Wolfe - UDFA

Donald Jones - UDFA

Averages 5th/6th, 1st/2nd/UDFA outliers. It's generally accepted that we don't need a WR in the early rounds, so it looks to me like we're probably going WR in the 5th/6th if at all.

OC

Maurkice Pouncey - late 1st or early 2nd round (official)

Matt Tennant - late 2nd or mid 3rd round (official)

J.D. Walton - 3rd round (official)

Eric Olsen - mid 4th to mid 5th round (official)

Ted Larsen - mid 4th to mid 5th round (official)

John Estes - 5th round

Erik Cook - UDFA

Averages a 4th rounder, with a lot of offical contact. Looks like a 3rd or 4th round pick could be used to get a C/G to train up. Could trade down to get into 2nd and still pick up Pouncey.

OG/OT

Mike Lupati - late 1st or early 2nd round (official)

Rodger Saffold - 2nd round (official)

Jared Veldheer - late 2nd to mid 3rd round

Joe Hawley - UDFA

Short list. These all look like options to us IF we trade down and use the late first/2nd rounder that result.

DE

Derrick Morgan - mid 1st round

Corey Wootton - 3rd round

Brandon Lang - 4th round

Lindsey Witten - late 4th to mid 5th round

Daniel Te'O-neshiem - 6th round

Clifton Geathers - 7th round

John Fletcher - UDFA

Mitch Unrein - UDFA

Doug Worthington - UDFA

No one is official. Smoke screen? Either way we're all over the board here. Interesting that we would work out someone who will probably be gone then ignore Graham, Kindle, Griffen and Dunlap and skip to 3rd/4th prospects. While TD has virtually said he will not trade up, he's a crafty guy. He's used the word "creative."

DT

Jared Odrick - late 1st to early 2nd round (official)

Brian Price - early 2nd round (official)

Terrence Cody - late 2nd to mid 3rd round

Geno Adkins - 3rd round

Jeff Owens - 5th round

Kade Weston - UDFA

Several early prospects here. Part of a trade-down again? Diversion? Adkins and Owens seem to be the most reasonable, especially when you consider the number of other early prospects we are looking at in the other categories.

TE/FB

Anthony McCoy - 3rd round (TE only)

Dorin Dickerson - 4th round (FB or TE prospect)

Clay Harbor - late 4th to early 5th round (FB or TE prospect)

Rashawn Jackson - late 5th round (FB only)

Michael Hoomanawanui - 7th round or UDFA (TE)

Michael Palmer - UDFA (TE)

No early prospects? Doesn't seem like a diversion when you evaluate our needs. Averages a 4th/5th. Ovie is awesome and has a solid backup in Snelling. We all know there's going to be a hole to fill when Gonzo leaves. Could definitely use a pick for TE in the 3rd/4th/5th.

RB

Jonathan Dwyer - 2nd round

Deji Karim - 7th round to UDFA (CoP)

Curtis Steele - 7th round to UDFA (CoP)

3 total, 2 of which could go undrafted, the last one in a round we don't currently own. We also seem solid at this position. Probably won't be addressed at all in this draft.

CB

Devin McCourty - early 2nd round

Perrish Cox - late 3rd round

Amari Spievy - 4th round

Trevard Lindley - 5th round

Averages a 3rd/4th. Not many being looked at. Haden was also talked to, though (before we signed Dunta.) I would think we could take a 4th/5th round prospect if there's good value, since we released Tye Hill and traded Houston.

S

Reshad Jones - 3rd round

Barry Church - UDFA

Mike Newton - UDFA

Anthony Levine - UDFA

Well, mostly UDFAs and we already have 4 safeties and a potential backup in Williams. Not much to be said here, probably won't be looked at.

P

Zoltan Mesko - 7th round to UDFA

We've got one of the best young punters in the league. We may need a kicker though.

LS

Mike Windt - UDFA

We already signed a LS.

Really if this is all you go by you could say we'll go

Trade down to get a 2nd rounder,

1st - OG Iupati

2nd - LB Washington, Hughes, Lee

3rd - OC Tennant, Walton

3rd - DE Lang

4th - TE Dickerson, Harbor

5th - DT Owens

5th - WR Best avail of our prospects

6th - OT Best avail

6th - RB Best avail

If this is the case though, we'll probably have to do some trading up in the middle rounds because we can't fit all these people. Two 6s and a 5th for a 4th?

Under LB, you missed Koa Misi from Utah. He seems like TD's kind of player.

Koa Misi, DE, Utah: Misi has created quite a stir in the scouting community after dominating the Mountain West Conference as a defensive end the past three seasons. As an athletic pass rusher with explosive quickness and a relentless motor, Misi excels at getting to the quarterback off the edge. While Misi has the size and speed to play as a defensive end in some 4-3 systems, he is being projected as an outside linebacker by 3-4 teams in search of an explosive hybrid edge rusher. After watching Misi put on a stellar showing at the Senior Bowl and in individual workouts, scouts are tabbing him as one of the draft's biggest sleepers.

Did we actually look at Misi or acknowledge him as a prospect at some point? If so, cool. But I couldn't find that anywhere. I do like the guy though.

Ah....these 3 will not be undrafted. You can count on that. Unless there is something I don't know which is very possible. I'm hoping we get Hawley in the 5th rd. He is the best Center Value pick in the draft IMO. I have him in my one and only Mock in the 5th.

If they're overall rank was greater than 320, I considered them UDFA simply because we don't have a 7th round normal or comp pick. Nothing personal, just tried to make it simple. If we do actually draft them, i'm sure TD has a good reason to spend a pick rather than wait for UDFA.
